2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask @ The Fat Cat. The pour’s deep amber with a small white head. The aroma’s apricot, some peach. Spring fruits. Notes of caramel and brown bread. Light twig . The taste is more of the same. A bit of over-brewed tea. Pumpernickel bread. Light fruity sweetness. Crisp, dry finish. Light body, easy drinking stuff. Overall, a decent little bitter. Nothing crazy.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask at the Fat Cat, Sheffield. Clear golden brown pour with a big bubbly head. Malty aroma but a pretty nondescript flavour. I expect a best bitter to be bitter, but sadly it's not. A nice enough ale, but there are much better examples out there.

Small white head. Clear amber body. Earthy musty caramel aroma with herbal notes. Dry-sweet gooseberry earth and caramel taste with floral notes. MId-bodied. Mild, soft faintly slick mouthfeel. Dry caramelly fruity dandelion aftertaste with herbal dusty strawy notes. Very nice, and surprisingly sweet. Long bitter finish continues for several minutes. (0.25l cask at The Coal Hole, The Strand, London.)

Cask handpull, The Punchbowl (not the JDW one), York. Once the idling, ditzy barstaff had decided to serve me. Brass with a thinning slick. Mineral edge, watery tea with dipped wafers. Creamy lemon hint. Faint red apple aroma. Pisswatter.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint from cask. Pours vivid amber but not much head. Sprightly and bitter, with a slight hint of juniper or maybe black tea, evolving into roasted, salted peanuts. Appropriately bitter. Not incredibly ambitious, but a very solid bitter.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 7/03/2011. Amber coloured with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of cereal malts with some fruity sweetness. Flavour had some decent malts, more fruit and a moderately bitter finish. Ok.
