Commercial Description:
Cask: Special - 2008. World Series
Named after the first historical leader of Poland.
Many modern polish beers are lagers but there is a rich heritage of Porters and Imperial Stouts and it is from the latter which Mieszko takes its inspiration.
Brewed with a grist comprising of 6 different grains. Mieszko is a rich and formidable beer with a luxuriant head a liquorice coloured body.
It has a coffee aroma which is punctuated with spicy fruit notes. On the palate Mieszko gives an initial hit of dark fruits which suddenly give way to an explosion of strong coffee, chocolate and roasted grain. The finish is dry with strong hop bitterness.

Cask-conditioned at the Summer Beer Festival, The Royal Oak, Bath 17/07/08. Opaque black in colour with a slight, tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits and bitter chocolate. Flavour was roasty, with some more fruit and a decent bitter finish. Good.

Clear dark brown almost black color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, light brown to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, coffee sourish, sulphur notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (260708)

Fat Cat, Sheffield. Intense beer. A bit too much strong coffee. A roasty bitter finish. Slightly greasy. Just too intense for pleasant drinking. Syrupy mouthfeel. Ugly. Like drinking neat Camp coffee. Palate fatigue sets in - and this eventually becomes undrinkable. Shame - it’s good when brewers play around with something dark and different, but this is a brew that doesn’t work for me.

A Mes rate: Cask in the Fat Cat in Sheffield.
Black body, tan head and rather lovely to look at. Excellent Baltic style brew with plenty roasty toasty notes. Lovely bitter dark chocolate and coffee with some faint fruity hints. Pronounced bitter kick in the finish. Gloriously dry. Great stuff.

Cask at the Fat Cat, Sheffield, on RateBeer Valley of Beer Crawl ’08. Thanks to mes for this one. Dark brown with a beige head. Dark chocolate aroma. Oily, sour roasted taste with a mid bitter finish. Unusual and enjoyable.
