Considering I'm starting to like IPA's...this one isn't that bad. A nice copper color pour with a cream colored head. The hoppiness really doesn't hit you till the end. And WOW! There's some hops in it. Nice kick at the end. Recommend trying for you IPA lovers.

On tap, pours a n interesting dark copper color with a large bubbled, white head. Nose and flavor are interesting in the hop presence and decent portion of caramel malt. A bit earthy in the finish.

Astingent and sour nose with earthy hop notes. Diacetyl on the palate with some indistinct dark malt and soice notes.

UPDATED: OCT 4, 2007 Not quite what I’d call a beer that I look for on a routine basis. A yeasty aroma that masks the usual hoppy IPA aroma but with a nice head. The hops were scaled down from the standard levels here. It went well with the food fare at the brewery, but I couldn’t see myself drinking it solo.
RE-RATE: Incredible turn about from these guys. I had this beer on cask and it was insanely tasty, coming from these guys. Aroma of flowery hops, rose petals, light fleshy fruits and a sweet caramel backbone. Flavor was overtly hoppy but not balls to the walls hoppy. A pleasant floral hop character went really well with the malts. Something that I could easily drink many pints of. Well done to the brewer of this one.

draft. pleasant copper color with nice head and retention. and that’s the last thing good I can say, as beer was overwelmed w/diacetyl. I could barely smell any hops through the butter, and the taste and palate were revoltingly sweet and slick. I advised the bar to take it off tap, and contact the brewery. I’d be happy to re-rate if I get a sample that doesn’t smell like AMC popcorn.

Bottle. Orange-amber in colour with a lasting beige coloured head. The aroma was of citrus hops (some orange, grapefruit), pine and earth. The flavour was of bitter floral hops, lots of earth and not as much citrus as the aroma led me to believe. Medium body, high carbonation. Finishes slightly sweet with a lingering bitterness. Something must be wrong with my bottle. Thanks for this one DarkElf.

Draft. Rich copper beer with a big beige head. Malty aroma with some citrus hops - less hop aroma than expected. Caramel malts with citrus hop flavors. Balanced but leving a nice bitter feel.

Poured a redish color with a large head. Hoppy aroma with a touch of maltiness. Flavor was of maltiness and a citrus and piney hop flavor with a heavy sourness that was probably not intentional. I think I may have gotten ahold of a bad bottle. I will definitely have to get my hands on another bottle to rerate.

My NEW favorite beer! Oh yes, this is BIG!! Bought at BevMo will go back soon and stock up!
Read from BevMo’s shelf label "A muscular IPA that is fruity, strong, and bitter, containing a fair amount of alcohol; could arguably be classified as a double IPA due to its monstrous character! " Like the Stone Brewery’s gimick, if this scares you STAY away!
However, if you are looking for a balanced (yes it is balanced) BIG BIG IPA grab it when you can! I can’t wait to travel to Manteca and see what’s on tap!
I would classify it as a double IPA.
The aftertaste is exquisite!

Terribly foamy but a huge mountianous head which produces large lacing. Yeast cloudy brown with some oranges. Aroma is a bit earthy, and very hoppy. Some floral and very strong bitterness, but a little off. A very fruity flavor on top of some bitterness. The fruityness tastes a little more pungent, but not necessiarly an off flavor that ruins the beer. Light body and a bitter finish. It doesn’t seem to be a strange profile in that it is a very strong hop aroma but not a very strong hop aroma.

Thanks to SDbruboy for hooking me up with this one. A bit over-carbonated and tough to pour at first. Cloudy amber orange. A bit too effervescent mouthfeel. Lots of bitterness scores points. Nice hop aroma. Overall a decent IPA
