On tap at brewpub
After hiking around Kelley Island for a while it was time to visit the island bar. That turned out to be a small little place just off the shore and well worth a visit if you happen to be visiting. Skipping the two light pale ales on offer I had pints of this and the Belgian. Considering the locale they were both great discoveries. If you happen to catch them on tap it is well worth the $4.50.
Aroma / Appearance - The deep brown body absorbed most light making it one of the darker brown ales I’ve seen. The nose was shelled peanuts, toast, slightly undercooked brownies and hops. The blend was easy on the olfactory senses.
Flavor / Palate - Hops melded with chocolate, rye toast and semisweet cocoa butter. A light malty aftertaste capped a balanced experience. It didn’t take long to eliminate the pint after letting it warm above freezing. Were this from a larger brewery I wouldn’t have been so generous with the score. However considering the limitations of the brewer he’s done a great job.
