King is paler than many bitters whilst remaining exceptionally well balanced and long lasting on the palate.

500nl brown bottle, filtered, from Asda. Sweetish, slightly sticky biscuit malt. Fragrant English hops. A light and pleasant premium bitter. The more I drink it the more I like it. Though I think too many would get cloying. And it does lack depth. But it is pleasant and attractive.

50cl bottle from Tesco, Camberley. A golden amber pour with a tight cream head; rich malty aroma; a thick, buttery, caramel, malt taste; but with the alcohol very obvious in the finish, despite the relatively low ABV. I’m not impressed.

Flaska på Ölmässan Örebro. En helt ok ESB från för mig ett helt okänt bryggeri. Men alltid kul med nytt.

500 ml bottle at home, into a Guinness glass, ABV 5.1% Deep orange colour on a clear body, with minimal activity in it. Almost two fingers of off-white head, good density, average retention. Medium lacing left on the glass. Aroma of hops, better that I expected, citrus, orange peel. Taste also of citrus, orange peel, a bit of cookie dough, well balanced with the malty elements, a bit of grass, some fruity hints on the finish. Bitter but not extremely so, with the bitterness having a short duration. Medium thin body, soft carbonation. I was expecting a thirteen in the dozen but this is actually very good.

Backlog. Tried it bottled. Just didn’t do it for me, not enough malt-base to be called an ESB according to me.

500ml bottle @ the 2nd Shrewsbury Bottle Share, courtesy of Luc. One of the bottles we didn’t quite finish last time. Pours a browny gold, crisp citrus, biscuit malts with a caramel hue. Drinkable session beer.

500ml Bottle: shared between four at the second ever Shrewsbury Bottle Share on 24th Feb 2014, cheers Luc for bringing it. This is my fourth beer from these guys and they have all been better than OK so far, this didn’t hurt their reputation either. Pours a pleasant light amber colour with head that is almost white, if a little thin in places. A slightly more malty nose than hoppy, some subtle fruitiness with a caramel undertone to the aromas. The taste is also leaning towards the malty side although there is a drying finish to each sip. Semi-sweet biscuity feel to the flavour with some caramel loitering about as well. Touches of a citrus nature calm the malts down and help to balance the beer somewhat, an easy drinking brew that helped the evening to flow nicely.
