Aroma of strong black coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of coconut. Flavor starts with rich coffee followed by semi-sweet dark chocolate then a light black licorice bitterness in the finish. Full rich body is smooth and creamy with moderate carbonation. Aroma and flavors are best at room temperature.

The aroma is fresh coffee with some smoke and chocolate and a little nuttiness in there as well. The flavor has lots of coffee and fruitiness, but the coffee is actually less dominant than it is in the aroma. Everything in this beer is pretty gosh darned perfectly balanced with some smokiness, some nuttiness, some dark chocolate, and the trace of coconut that shows up. thooper41 (394), Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 5, 2010 12oz bottle: Appearance is pitch black with quick fading brown head, Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt, Flavor strong with coffee up front hints of chocolate and roasted malt. I am not a coffee drinker but this isn’t too bad, but Stone needs to put quite a bit more into this one if they want to match the Speedway Stout. bb (2976), Martinez, California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 3, 2010 Bottle, thanks to alexanderj. black pour, a little bit of cream colored head. Aroma is coffee, sweeter black licorice, a little nuttiness and roasted malt. Flavor is the same, sweet from what tastes like molasses and with rich bitterness from the roast and coffee. Nice beer overall. KAME (157), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 2, 2010 An interesting brew indeed, but not amazing. Aroma is full of bitter coffee and very roasty. Some coconut sweetness is present, but a bit too burnt for me to truly enjoy. I’m not a big fan of smokey, roasty beers. Flavor is a bit of mess, with the sweetness and coffee doing battle instead of finding an acceptable compromise. Finish has some nice bitterness, but more than I’d like for a porter, and there is a bit of alcohol present. Overall a nice complex brew, but it doesn’t quite work for me. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Bottle from Cole’s. Black, short-lived tan head with no lacing. Coffee and berries in the aroma. The flavour is dominated by coffee, with chocolate and a slight nuttiness. I don’t really get the coconut. Body is sticky and thin at the same time!? Interesting porter. The name needs a little work, though. Boliv (215), New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Bottle. Pours dark brown, nearly black, and almost no head. Aromas of coffee, roasted/burnt malt, and hazelnuts. Flavor is sweet, nice and roasty, with some alcohol present, and notes of nuts and espresso. It’s smooth with medium carbonation, and leaves an aftertaste of bitter coffee. I like it, really good stuff. Thanks Dan! kyzr (1132), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Flavor is much the same with a wonderful nutty taste that just hangs on. Good bit of hops that round out this fine porter!
