3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Strong aroma is smoky and slightly sweet, with licorice, molasses and horehound notes. It pours a dark, semi-transparent mahogany with a very thick, fine-bubbled, cream-tan head. Flavor has smoky, malty, molasses and caramel notes, not quite mouth-filling but still pleasing. Smooth texture has average body and minimal fizz.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at an esbls tasting. Lots of red in thid dark beer. It is clear and has no head. Roasted notes with sour milk. Brown sugar flavor and roasted noted. Not a great beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
An almost black bodied brew with a light khaki head. A sweet nose of apple juice and medium roast coffee. There is definitely some cocoa goodness. The taste has lots of cola and pecans. The finish is decently roasted with the coffee and dark chocolate. There is also a little bit of prunes. The body is fairly thin with sharp carbonation. Pleasant.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
bottle... watery dark brown, light tan head leaves a ring with a bit of a trail... generic vanilla dominates the nose with a light coffee finish... this is a mess, way overcarbonated, tastes of stale coffee with a touch of vanilla...pass

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12oz bottle from Trader Joe’s, I almost scrolled past this one thinking it the wheat beer that was contracted thru Shipyard. I didn’t like that one so much, but I like porter, so I pretty much buy every one of them I see.
The beer pours a very dark reddish brown color with a big fluffy off white head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass.
The aroma is very woody (for lack of a better term) with some mild chocolate notes, some subdued notes of burnt sugar and nondescript fruit are in there as well.
The flavor has some nice things going on... but it’s buttery and off. I very much wish it weren’t so buttery, I like the nice roast bitterness, I love the light cocoa hint that lingers in the background from start to finish, I like the earthy hoppiness, & the mild fruit. But I do not like the flavor of buttered popcorn competing with these flavors.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. Looks dark. Aroma of roasted malts, a little chocolate and smokiness, and some light hops. Flavor about the same. Average texture. A decent porter.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12-oz bottle from Trader Joe’s. Appearance is deep, dark reddish brown under a fast-dissolving head and fast sheet lacing that leaves a ring.
Aroma is malty: roasty chocolate and deep earth with an alcohol kick which is unexpected from such a low ABV of only 5.6%. Aroma definitely improves with warming.
Taste is minimal salty but carries the aroma so so well even revealing butterscotch.
Palate is medium, a bit sticky, and with a fairly quick bitter finish.
Overall, the beer’s got a lot of good going on and compares well to Saranac Black and Tan.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Trader Joe’s, DC 12oz ($1): Pours a dark brown color with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate and roasted malts. Taste was surprisingly good actually. Nice chocolatey flavour. Nothing too complex, but very drinkable. This is a very mild porter and doesn’t really go much for the hops, but there is some bitterness present. Some aftertaste that lingers for a bit. All in all, this was a pleasant surprise though by no means a porter that has wowed me like no other.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle pours mahogany with dark tan head. The aroma is sort of dusty roasty malts, some burnt malts and a hind of chocolate malts sprinkled around here and there. The taste has a medley of various degrees of roasted maltiness from roasted to highly roasted to burnt malts and then to chocolate malts and dark roasted coffee. In the background I get a touch of earthiness. Nice roasty Porter.

bottled. pours clear dark brown with a small light tan head. aromas of chocolate, earth and roasted malt. similar flavors. on the tongue it is moderately sweet with a touch of roasted coffee bitterness. lasts a while on the tongue first with the overtones of chocolate then with bitterness from the roasted malt. not bad, overall a decent beer, and with trader joe’s pricing, i may just buy some more.
