IrishBoy (2057), Bakersfield, California, USA May 10, 2008 12 oz bottle from Trader Joes; not an aliased Sea Dog; Nose has caramel, chocolate and a light diacetyl (buttery) note; claer but very dark brown with a medium beige head; flavor was very light caramel, light hop bitterness, and that pesky diacetyl (light and quickly fading but present). Finish lightly bitter.
GreatLibations (1241), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Jun 5, 2008 Thanks Tim baby! Good dark color with a shallow head but very retentive. Decent lacing. Aromas of baked brownies and dark cocoa, nice. Medium nectar w/ good carbonation. A moderate roast component delivers roasted coffee bean and dark cocoa flavors. Brownie bread, vanilla, and a nice snappy hop profile add to the complexities. The finish bitters up nicely while the flavors linger. This is a nice beer. BrewDad (1553), Olympia, Washington, USA Jun 4, 2008 12oz Bottle - Trader Joes - Tacoma, WA
Aroma – Big roasty malt aroma with lingering hints of toffee and coffee.
Appearance – Dark Brown in color, light head and clear.
Flavor – Dark malt flavor with hints of smokeyness and tads of coffee and toffee.
Palate – Great porter Mouthfeel, Good texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – I was impressed with this beer had a smoked porter flavor to it and was wow pretty darn good.
Tmoney99 (3429), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bottle from Trader Joe’s. Pours clear brown with an average frothy light brown head that was diminished quickly with fair lacing. Moderate roasted coffee nutty aroma. Medium body. Balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of an average duration. Drinkable below average porter. bulletrain76 (497), Santa Cruz, California, USA May 30, 2008 12oz bottle from trader Joe’s. Looks good to begin with: dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is quite veggie and chocolate malt; a little strange. There is definitely some unclean yeast action going on. The flavor is roasty and light, with some weird veggie notes as well. Thin in the mouth. Still drinkable if you really want to, but this is pretty bad. Definitely not happening again.
