Bottle. Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Nose is sour and raisin. Medium to thinner palate. Taste of nut, and some sort of sour grape. Not very good.

0.7 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20
Not much of a porter. More like a brown ale. But even if I was too rate it as a brown ale it wouldn’t rate very well.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A completely average beer from Trader Joe?s (which is surprising given the awful beers they sell). Pours dark black/red with half inch of caramel head. Chocolate aromas. Tastes like chocolate, molasses, and hints of caramel/cocoa. Utterly forgettable.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A decent, if forgettable porter. Pours a nice black with a light tan head. Smells decent, some coffee, but also a bit of fakeness. Taste starts with some coffee, but then a sweet fake taste comes in, and finishes with a weird aftertaste. Had in the bottle.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This brew is my go-to "dessert beer." Cannot say enough about it. Full body without being filling, doesn’t throw a lot of nutmeg and vanilla at you, just the bold, God’s honest truth in flavor. Mmmmmm! Favorite thing since LaTrappe Dubbel, which I cannot slide home with in a six pack, cocky as hell cause it’s brewed in my Home State of Maine!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle from Trader Joe’s with a July 2014 Best By date served in a snifter. Poured a very dark mahogany; clear with a small tan head and decent lacing.
The aroma is mainly of dark malts; slightly smokey and peppery with hints of figs, other dark fruits, and some odd tropical notes.
Taste: Complex and rich. Also slightly smokey and peppery, particularly in the finish; a nice bit of dark chocolate mid-palate. Some sprucy hops on the finish.
M: smooth with a bit of crispness; good carbonation level.
O: not a typical porter, but I found it to be quite enjoyable, and a bargain at TJ prices. Changes flavor upon warming but tasty throughout.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle from Trader Joe’s in Tally. Deep brown pour with a thin light khaki head. Aroma is roasty malt, molasses. Tastes are cocoa, brown sugar, little coffee. Chocolate bitter. Thin palate. Like most of the beers I’ve had from TJ’s so far: not bad, not great.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours a translucent red-brown with a smooth, fine-grained off-cream head. Nose is strong savory, weak coffee, beef bouillon. Some coffee and herbal flavors, but not much else; there’s not a lot of substance to it, though it is even all the way across the mouth with no hollow spaces. More like a dark lager than a porter, really. It’s all right, but nothing notable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Standard US longneck, albeit twistoff. OK label. Clear, black plum brew, thin khaki head. Aroma is twangy, leathery, tannic/peaty, lightly sweet and overbrewed. I actually liked this more than I thought, following the aroma. Tastes like more of a scottish/dark brown ale than a porter, definitely more "ale-y" than your usual, and less roasty. Sweetish vanilla at times, maybe some cherry, a little peaty. Medium body, not crisp. Interesting, and it may be the high water mark from my tick-rich but quality-poor foraging trip to Trader Joe’s Tallahassee.
