2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s Chapel Hill, $1.00
Ar: Aroma is mildly roasty, but there’s a really awkward sweet malty note piercing through. Odd.
Ap: Pours a medium brown-black, slightly hazy, frothy 1" light cinnamon head lasts pretty well.
T: Not much sweetness, the finish has the bitter chocolate bite but not much bitter chocolate flavor. Just not a very robust beer.
P: Medium body with medium-high carbonation.
O: It’s a buck, and it’s definitely a Porter. Just a very dull one.

2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle from Trader Joe’s. There are some nice things happening with KBC’s Porter. Dark brown color and tan foam. The aroma is rich: cream, roasted malt, and cocoa. Flavor has cream and a hint of coffee. Flavor tends toward sweet - perhaps a little too much for my taste. Medium feel and decent balance. Overall, not bad.

Decent but unremarkable porter. Some pronounced coffee flavors, some hops. Not bad.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a deep brown/almost black color but somewhat thin. Nice little tan head. Tastes of chocolate and coffee and malt. Not much hoppiness. Easy drinker, light and sessionable

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From Trader Joe in Vegas. Pours a clear, deep copper colour with a beige head, decent retention and a little lace. Fruity dark malt nose with some light hops. A lot of the same in the taste but with the hops being more powerful in the finish, and roasted malts lingering. I feel some mild infection in this one, so hope this is not in others. Decent average porter.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle at home. Deep amber pour. The aroma is sweet coffee, maple syrup, root beer. Thin wiry body, but it has lean roasted malts, maple, bitter coffee, burnt caramel, and burnt wood flavors. Well attenuated finish. Ashy. This is complex but needs a bit more viscosity and ABV to carry these flavors. Falls a bit short.

2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
12 ounce bottle from Trader Joe’s. Translucent brown color with a moderate fluffy light tan head. Sweet roasted malt nose is redolent of cocoa. Thin bodied with slight notes of cocoa and weak coffee. Slightly lactic with little more to offer. Skip this one.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Medium brown pour, disappearing head. Little coco on the nose. Bittersweet. Middle is bittersweet chocolate, dollop of molasses, and some dark malt. Finish wants to lean dry, but still comes out a tad sweet. Not bad, not great.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bought at Trader Joe’s in Queens, NY. This can hardly be called a porter. Sweet smell, thin taste, light-bodied, bitter, slightly toasty. Again, the least porterly of the porters.
