Commercial Description:
Kentucky Ale is a marriage between two classic beer styles, Irish Red Ale and English Pale Ale. The Kentucky Ale mashing program uses: • the finest 2-row imported Harrington malt, • select caramel malt varieties grown both domestically and abroad, • a pinch of wheat malt for a smooth, creamy taste. Varieties of the English hops East Kent Goldings and Fuggles impart a spicy yet soft, floral aroma without a harsh, bitter aftertaste. These ale hops are used to balance the sweetness of the malt and are an important flavor component of Kentucky Ale. Light copper in color, the unique body and character of Kentucky Ale is heavily influenced by the water, drawn from aquifers in the limestone underlying the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

Dark gold, HUGE white head. Soggy toast aroma. Hints of yeast flavors, as well as breat and touch of maybe some peppery hop s. OK, rather nondescript. Sampled at 2004 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam.

Er...not so good. It does explain a lot to read the commercial description and see that they’re aiming, in part, for an English Pale Ale. Bronze color, not a ton of head. An aroma of dusty caramel and stale carrots. The flavor is musty, slightly sweet but also vegetal and grassy. The palate is more English than American (hence the earlier comment on learning what they were trying for)--low carbonation in body, smooth-ish, low bitterness, but just a wee bit flat in feeling. I didn’t think this was too good, but at least I got a Kentucky beer out of it.

Bottle. Sweet smoky caramel. Great caramel color. Very plain and drinkable. I would drink this again. The slight brown ale/honey taste wouyld keep me coming back.

Clear amber with thin white head...smells sweetly malty and grassy...tastes thin and first then very malty, nutty, honey, and chewy...syrupy grass and honey aftertaste...reminds me (painfully I might add) of Honey Brown...

Just not a lot to say about this one. I bet that if this was a local beer for me, I would probably be quite proud of it. But in the grand scheme of the many beers that I have had, it did nothing to stand out. Very standard in its hop notes and a little weak in the malt area.

Roasted malt aroma with notes of smoked stones. Amber orange brown in color with small off-white head and excellent lace. Reasonably good roasted malt (vienna) flavor. Some session quality. Good drinkable beer with a reasonable alcohol presence.

Bottle. Never seen this before. Got it while on vacation in Louisville KY. Poured amber/gold with a nice while head that was gone in a jiffy. Malt odor with a slight yeast overtone. Touch of hops, and all in all, a decent, but pretty average ale.
