Commercial Description:
Kentucky Ale is a marriage between two classic beer styles, Irish Red Ale and English Pale Ale. The Kentucky Ale mashing program uses: • the finest 2-row imported Harrington malt, • select caramel malt varieties grown both domestically and abroad, • a pinch of wheat malt for a smooth, creamy taste. Varieties of the English hops East Kent Goldings and Fuggles impart a spicy yet soft, floral aroma without a harsh, bitter aftertaste. These ale hops are used to balance the sweetness of the malt and are an important flavor component of Kentucky Ale. Light copper in color, the unique body and character of Kentucky Ale is heavily influenced by the water, drawn from aquifers in the limestone underlying the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

Bottle from Acknud. Thanks! Pours an average dark yellow with minimal head and lacing. Aroma is nutty banana and wet autumn leaves. Flavor is caramel and a slight butterscotch, with a watery nut finish. Watery mouthfeel.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Acknud, split with Naka. Pours light copper with white head, fizzy and gone in a blink. Big old caramel nose, touch of chocolate and mild butter. Tastes of kettle corn that’s been dipped in butter and sprinkled with a touch of chocolate. Mild bitter at the end, earthy and slightly lingering. Medium bodied. Decent. Would like to try one fresh. It was in the basement a bit too long.

Aroma of fresh bread. Pours redish amber with a short lived white head. Tastes malty and bitter although equally it doen’t seem balanced. The two are divided between the begining and the finish, something I don’t see often in any beer. Medium light mouthfeel. Overall impressive, mainly for the unbalanced palate that provides complexity and a desirable characteristic that is uncommon in beer.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear light orange color. Head was thin, white, and reduced to a thin white film that hung around for a while. There was some lace on the glass at the end. Aroma was of light molasses and husky grain. The flavor was the same with too much husk in my opinion. There was some light hop bitterness at the end. I preferred the Kentucky Horse Piss Beer I just tried to this one. Bleh.

12 oz Bottle-Trade w/Acknud-Pours a clear copper color w/almost no head. Roasted malt/floral hop aroma. Floral hop flavor up front, followed up with some roasted malt, grain, a little caramel, & a slight sweet flavor. Has a little bit of a bitter finish. Solid brew, not spectacular. Easy to drink, mouthfeel is very thin though, kind of like a watered down Yuengling or Fat Tire. I’d like to try it on tap, maybe if I ever get to Kentucky!
