Commercial Description:
Kentucky Ale is a marriage between two classic beer styles, Irish Red Ale and English Pale Ale. The Kentucky Ale mashing program uses: • the finest 2-row imported Harrington malt, • select caramel malt varieties grown both domestically and abroad, • a pinch of wheat malt for a smooth, creamy taste. Varieties of the English hops East Kent Goldings and Fuggles impart a spicy yet soft, floral aroma without a harsh, bitter aftertaste. These ale hops are used to balance the sweetness of the malt and are an important flavor component of Kentucky Ale. Light copper in color, the unique body and character of Kentucky Ale is heavily influenced by the water, drawn from aquifers in the limestone underlying the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

Poured golden amber. White head disappeared quickly to a slight lacing. Nose was very slight hops and a sweet malty aroma...some have described as caramel though I am not willing to pinpoint. Easy drinking, but a little watery. Basically an average english ale with very little hops. It’s nothing special but would have again if in Kentucky, where it is the best thing in bottle or on tap at several bars I went to and the price is right.

This was shipped up to me by Acknud (thanks!). It pours a light tan color with nice head formation which is very durable for a non-secondary fermented beer. Aroma is light caramel balanced with hops. I could tell from this preview that this wasn’t going to be a hop-fest, but might be nicely balanced (between malt and hop), like McTarnahan’s Amber. Flavor was fairly balanced. However, flavor was a bit watery with some cerealness. This beer was rather drinkable and uncomplicated, but not immensely commendable.

12 oz. bottle consumed at fridge temp. Pours a golden yellow with a hint of red. Small white head w/ minimal lace. Thin watery mouthfeel. Minimal taste of citrus and hops, but not much else. I’m not getting the flavors some of the other raters are getting. A rather bland brew.

Very nice amber brewed here in the great Ky. Nice dark caramel color. Long lasting off white head. Nice balance between hops and malt. Nice beer.

Rated 1/8/06: All around solid ale. Amber in color with a decent head. The flavor is much better than I anticipated so I was quite pleased. Standard flavor for an english style ale. The taste is good and the price is right unfortunately it is hard to find in this area. I will pick more up if I ever run across it again.

Bottle - medium amber clear pour with a compact white head that quickly fell to skim the surface, good carbonation. Very mild earthy hop nose, almost non-existent. Flavor is similarly light with indistinct malt and light earthy hop flavor..watery and soft. Nothing horrible but nothing about this beer stands out as above average.

Bottle... Deep yellow color with a nice off-white head. Some bubbles rose to the top. Herbal, with some sweet malt in the aroma. Smooth taste. Some hops, but not a lot. Overall very decent...ty rayboy
