Commercial Description:
Kentucky Ale is a marriage between two classic beer styles, Irish Red Ale and English Pale Ale. The Kentucky Ale mashing program uses: • the finest 2-row imported Harrington malt, • select caramel malt varieties grown both domestically and abroad, • a pinch of wheat malt for a smooth, creamy taste. Varieties of the English hops East Kent Goldings and Fuggles impart a spicy yet soft, floral aroma without a harsh, bitter aftertaste. These ale hops are used to balance the sweetness of the malt and are an important flavor component of Kentucky Ale. Light copper in color, the unique body and character of Kentucky Ale is heavily influenced by the water, drawn from aquifers in the limestone underlying the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

Amber with a white head. Sweet aromas of biscuity malts and some fruitiness. Tastes pretty sweet, like a candy bar-vanilla, caramel and butterscotch. There is some hop flavor for balance, but the sweetness is what you remember.

[on tap in the Cincinnati airport] Clear caramel with no lasting head. Strong caramel aroma with notes of candy apples and butterscotch. Pleasant caramel flavour but not as strong as aroma suggests. Citrusy hops, green apple, low bitterness, medium sweetness. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, lasting caramel flavour.

Orang color with a small but lasting head. soft aroma of caramel. Flavor is mild and mostly sweet although you can descern some hop at the very end. Nothing exception to brag about, but a decent beer and inexpensive.

(Knoxville Brewers’ Jam). Pours yellow-orange with a soapy head. The aroma is caramelized malts and a little bit of brown sugar. The flavor is burnt caramel and just a bit of grapefruit with some bland hops in the finish.

Bottle. Pours deep orange with a light haze and a very small head. The aroma is malty (light biscuit, and hay type grains). Smells like a lager. Malty flavor with undertones of citrus (but not in the most pleasant of ways). Very minimal hops noticed towards the end. Body is adequate/medium. Much more like a lager than an ale.

Pours a dark golden with a white, mostly diminishing head. Some strange protein globules floating around knocked a few points off appearance and could be due to the age of the beer. Sweet aroma of malt (bready, cookie) with some notes of floral hops and honey. More caramel malts and subdued fruitiness in the taste, with a hint of butterscotch. A tart, sweet finish. Like an English bitter without an overwhemling load of hops. Better than other ratings would suggest.

Medium golden. Staleish english hop aroma, bit of dust and perfume. Rather sweet, but not overly interesting malt. More staleish hops late. Thanks Eric!
