Commercial Description:
Kentucky Ale is a marriage between two classic beer styles, Irish Red Ale and English Pale Ale. The Kentucky Ale mashing program uses: • the finest 2-row imported Harrington malt, • select caramel malt varieties grown both domestically and abroad, • a pinch of wheat malt for a smooth, creamy taste. Varieties of the English hops East Kent Goldings and Fuggles impart a spicy yet soft, floral aroma without a harsh, bitter aftertaste. These ale hops are used to balance the sweetness of the malt and are an important flavor component of Kentucky Ale. Light copper in color, the unique body and character of Kentucky Ale is heavily influenced by the water, drawn from aquifers in the limestone underlying the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

Bottle from Ashland Beverage Center. The beer is a clear yellow-amber color with a thin and foamy white head that disappears quickly. Thin strings of lacing. Mild malt and caramel aroma. Light body with with sweet grain, malt and fruit flavors. Just a hint of hops bitterness in the background. The finish is short with a sweet malt aftertaste. Barely average overall.

Looking at the numerical scores, this beer is definitely more than the sum of its parts. I had it on tap at a bar in a small town just north of Lexington, KY. Dark gold in colour, it’s flavour is mostly malt, with a hint of hops in the aftertaste. An excellent beer for it’s price range ($3 per pint in a relatively nice bar), and quite decent on the absolute scale.

Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy orange with a spare diminishing white head. Aroma of caramel malt, grain, fruit, light hops and buttery toffee. Flavour of caramel malt, mild hops and again, buttery toffee. Light bitter finish. Average bodied. Just alright.

Bottle (330ml). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, via trade with acknud. Clear light amber, average white head. Lightly papery aroma of apple malt and dry flowers. Taste is buttery candy apple, slightly bitter in the finish. Light, syrupy body, slick and still, stale caramel in the linger. Meh.

This is a weird beer. Bottle thanks to Acknud. Pours a golden color with barely any head. It is almost odorless and flavorless. I do taste slight malts...but nothing esle. Very odd indeed!

12oz bottle-pours a thin white head and gold color. Aroma is mild sweet grain. Taste is sweet grain/medium malt, secondary hops bite. Nice easy drinking.
