COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kentucky Ale is a marriage between two classic beer styles, Irish Red Ale and English Pale Ale. The Kentucky Ale mashing program uses: • the finest 2-row imported Harrington malt, • select caramel malt varieties grown both domestically and abroad, • a pinch of wheat malt for a smooth, creamy taste. Varieties of the English hops East Kent Goldings and Fuggles impart a spicy yet soft, floral aroma without a harsh, bitter aftertaste. These ale hops are used to balance the sweetness of the malt and are an important flavor component of Kentucky Ale. Light copper in color, the unique body and character of Kentucky Ale is heavily influenced by the water, drawn from aquifers in the limestone underlying the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky.

From the Jug at the GABF Colorado Convention Center, Denver 11/10/2008 Floral hop aroma. Clear golden coloured hoppy and slightly citrus flavoured with a little dryness in a crisp and creamy malt finish.

This very English brown ale is surprisingly drinkable. It presents a nice, but quickly disappearing, head and a mellow brown color. The aroma has faint hints of hoppy floralness. But the real pleasure is drinking it. It has all the good flavor of an Irish red and full-bodied-ness of an English amber.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2011 Updated 7/5/11. Aroma of cider, caramel, light vanilla and a touch of oak. Appearance is light copper with light tan head. Flavor is caramel and some vanilla up front; the finish is sweet and cidery. Palate is bubbly. Quite liked this the 2nd time around.

Looking at the numerical scores, this beer is definitely more than the sum of its parts. I had it on tap at a bar in a small town just north of Lexington, KY. Dark gold in colour, it’s flavour is mostly malt, with a hint of hops in the aftertaste. An excellent beer for it’s price range ($3 per pint in a relatively nice bar), and quite decent on the absolute scale.

I hate to see this have such a low rating, this is a solid beer. The aroma is malty, the flavors are sweet hi-lighting caramel. This is very sweet and smooth. Good stuff and it’s made here in my city.

4/03/2010: Kentucky Ale... Aroma: Floral with some creamy toffee maltiness. Appearance: Mostly transparent golden color with a substantial, lasting off-white head. Flavor: Nice combination of toasted caramel maltiness (slightly sweet) paired with a nice citrus peel and floral hop flavor and moderate bitterness with a bit of a mis-placed creaminess in the finish. Palate: Overall: Surprisingly good and MUCH better than I remember it from many years ago (myabe because this time I had it on fresh on draught rather than from a bottle?); I could easily drink a few of these in a sitting...

Pint (draught) at Old Owl Tavern in Harrodsburg, KY. Rating #124 for this beer.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2006 Pours a dark golden with a white, mostly diminishing head. Some strange protein globules floating around knocked a few points off appearance and could be due to the age of the beer. Sweet aroma of malt (bready, cookie) with some notes of floral hops and honey. More caramel malts and subdued fruitiness in the taste, with a hint of butterscotch. A tart, sweet finish. Like an English bitter without an overwhemling load of hops. Better than other ratings would suggest.
