Award-winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Ale® is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after-dinner drink. Launched in 2006, it has grown to become the flagship beer of the premier name in barrel-aged beers: Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.

This beer is advertised. Pleasant aroma, full bodied, sipping beer. It’s got a deep Amber coloring and delivers on the promise of the bourbon cask orientation. Something you definitely want to try once.

Pours a reddish amber with a small white head. Lovely beer. Lots of bourbon aroma and flavour. Vanilla is also present in the taste. Very easy to drink and obviously quite strong. Not a huge amount of complexity in the flavour but it doesn’t need it

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale was my first introduction to Alltech Brewery and to the Bourbon Barrel Aged Beer style altogether. When I first tried this Kentucky Strong Ale around 10 yrs ago, when it first was released, it instantly became my go-to beer. I even went on a tour at Alltech’s brewery and distillery, while finishing up the Bourbon Trail. Bourbon Whiskey is my drink of choice, so Bourbon Barrel Aged Beer is right up my alley. My palate has evolved drastically since then and the number of craft beer choices has increased exponentially. Not one I choose anymore due to my “thirst” of anything new, craft, and local, but when I do get to enjoy one, I am never displeased. 12 oz bottle from a friend. Medium copper color with a tight, tan, lasting head and spotty lace.
Aroma is Bourbon, vanilla, caramel, smoke, oak.
Flavor is similar. Definitely get the bourbon note right away, then Vanilla and a hint of charred oak, along with some warm toasty notes. Super smooth, and never boozy. Goes down easy for an 8%.

Found this while taking a tour of the factory. Was very impressed with the quality of the brew. Enjoyed the barrel taste that is carried through the beer. In my opinion one of the best this brewery has to offer.

Chicago 1/8/16 (Sweetwater - Draft poured into snifter glass) Dark orange/copper pour, minimal head which quickly dissipated and mild carbonation. Bourbon aroma, with hints of caramel. Enjoyed the malt and mild bourbon taste, stronger ABV not noticed. Smooth and easy going down, texture dry. Overall very good beer and I’m glad I tried a few.

Rating #450. Where: Nantucket, MA, Brotherhood of Thieves. How: 12 oz bottle, poured into a tulip glass. Appearance: Pours a medium brown and no head. Aroma: Bourbon, and some caramel. Taste: Follows the nose, but taste of liquor increases, definitely get the aged in bourbon barrels flavors. Palate: Kind of thin. Overall: Not that noteworthy, flavor wise or aromatically. Not my style.

Bottle@hotel, from Vintner Wine Market. Medium aroma of bourbon and vanilla. Copper color with medium creamy white head. Medium boozy though smooth taste of bourbon, caramel malts and vanilla. Balanced with medium taste spectrum and medium, boozy, bourbon aftertaste. Light/medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, adequate taste for this percentage but awful lack of body and too high carbonation.
