3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 high_on_hops (407) - Burlingame, California, USA - MAR 21, 2013
On tap. Pours a medium amber red with a foamy off-white head and lacing. It has a nice aroma of bourbon and vanilla with some woody notes, and the flavor is definite bourbon up front with some more vanilla, a slightly malty middle and bourbon aftertaste.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 pkbites (571) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 19, 2013
Pours a coppery orangy yellow with a slightly beige head. Great nose of vanilla, caramel, and oak. Flavor is a bit astringent. The alcohol is present. Woody, grainy on the palate. But it’s also thick like caramel. Lots of burnt sugar present. Nice! This is actually the first bourbon barrel beer I’ve had where I could actually detect the flavor of bourbon whiskey in. A LOT! Almost like a shot was dropped into the beer like a boilermaker. I’ve rated this brewers other offerings rather low, but I have to say, they are trying really hard to make great brews. This one is a winner!
Bottle from Breeze Through, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

On tap at the Funky Buddha. Clear amber pour with a white head. Low end bourbon nose. Cheap ass bourbon and cola with turpentine highlights. This is so bad, I don’t know where to start.

delicious...I love bourbon and I love beer...perfect blend...a little caramel, without being too sweet. Very drinkable...had too many, but could have had more. delicious. had it at Ginger Man in Manhattan on tap.

Great balance of flavor and crispness. Much better on tap than in bottle. I’m not a fan of the bourbon barrel stouts. To heavy and cloying. This is an ale and for me they got it right.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Holmen1 (1073) - NORWAY - MAR 12, 2013
Thumbs down.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 strangehorse (21) - - MAR 12, 2013
Definitely on the heavy side for me. Didn’t impress with nose or flavour, and was strong - without being enjoyable. Wouldn’t recommend.
