I heard the taste described as bourbon with water. I found this to be accurate. If you like bourbon then you might like this beer, if you don’t, like me, then you will probably not like this beer.

Sampled at the 2012 American Craft Beer Festival. Not the best beer. A little bourbon but not much. Maybe I just hate everything from Lexington.

A pretty brown-golden look like a sarsaparilla. Malt sweetness under a heavy bourbon aroma. Bourbon and vanilla were there in the taste, but it felt too thin. Very sweet. Smooth and watery mouthfeel. I don’t want too watery of a beer if I am drinking a bourbon aged beer, so pretty disappointed.

Pours golden with thick white head. Aroma is a little weak, which was unexpected, but shows the bourbon. This is a bourbon beer. Bourbon on the front, bourbon on the back, boozy bourbon finish. A little oversweet and unbalanced, but if you like watered down bourbon, this is the beer for you.

Snifter at Timothy O’Toole’s during Chicago Craft Beer Week. Clearly I’m showing more love for this than most raters; maybe coming from a tap helps? Golden bourbon color: the brewmaster really picked his grains well. A thin ring of foam with a scrum of bubbles in the center. The smell is bourbon and branch, a moderate amount of alcohol. The taste carries through with that smooth Kentucky bourbon impression. Limited bittering, just enough to stay out of the way. Impression is right between sippin’ and slurpin;. Besides, this was just $5.50, great price for a Streeterville bar.

12oz bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a crystal clear, deeper gold colored body with a finger-width, frothy, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is thin bourbon and vanilla with a bit of a buttery malt backing. Flavor is vanilla and bourbon with a thin, slightly sour butter malt backing. Finishes thin and dry from the wood before leaving a medium length aftertaste. Overall, this is a pretty bad beer. Straight vanilla and bourbon with a thin, buttery, slightly sour malt backing. At least it looked good.

I enjoyed Kentucky Bourbon Ale. It hardly tastes like beer. It’s more like a gentle southern bourbon and very sweet at that. Like a strong southern accent though, it would probably wear on me after a while.

On tap at The Beer Growler in Decatur, GA. Light caramel color with a beige head. Sweet, rounded body. Distinctive bourbon taste but not accompanied by the alcoholic strength of bourbon. Very good

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clean amber color with a half finger head... Aromas are overwhelming burnt sugar with hints of oak, vanilla and bourbon. Flavors are very smooth with a rich mouthfeel and a heavy sweet caramel backdrop but not syrupy. Nice flavors of earthy oak, vanilla and a subtle hint of bitter hops to make it a little more refreshing than I though it would be. Not bad at all.

Had straight out of the bottle. Sweet tasting ale upfront with a malty bourbon flavor all the way through to the end. Expectations were low, but I was pleasantly suprised. Enjoyable ale that I would drink again.
