COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Award-winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Ale® is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after-dinner drink. Launched in 2006, it has grown to become the flagship beer of the premier name in barrel-aged beers: Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.

Bottle thanks to bjohnston. Poured clear gold with a white head. Aroma was vanilla, caramel, Orange cream sickle, and grains. Flavor pretty much the same plus a butter type note. Body was full with low carbonation.

Amber color with thin white head. Aroma is some slight vanilla, a little medicinal. Flavor builds on that impression, reminds me of vanilla extract or oddly melted ice cream. Really, just not good, I would almost rather have a mass produced lager than this odd attempt at a bourbon flavored beer. Lacks flavor, depth and leaves an unpleasant aftertaste.

I received this as an extra in a trade. Poured into an Ommegang glass at fridge temperature.

A - This beer poured a dark golden color which was surprising. I expected dark brown but this is clearly a golden ale. A 2-Finger head was produced that was crystal clear and dissipated almost instantly. There’s some nice bubbles on the swirl but, at 8%, no alcohol legs to speak of.

S - There’s not a lot of smell to this. Clear Bourbon scent but it’s very weak. I’m no getting much and am overall pretty disappointed with the scent. Smells like a BMC beer.

T - Immediately, I’m getting Wild Turkey or Makers Mark mixed with a glass of spring water. It’s really pretty nasty. Dry and roasted malts on the back of the tongue.

M - 80% carbonation on the mouth swish. Light-bodied and a mouth quenching whiskey linger.

O - This is flat out a drain pour. wow, what a disappointing beer.

12 oz bottle pours golden with a white head. Aroma of malt and of course the bourbon. Taste is bourbon, toffee and malts.

Had this at the brewery about 6 years ago in a bottle that came off the line and had never been capped. This rating will be for a draft pour I had last weekend at Meadhall in Cambridge, MA. Snifter pour. Translucent light amber color. Really shines in the glass. Very fragrant sweet bourbon nose. Taste is a little thin and watery considering the bold aroma. It’s basically a one dimensional light amber ale that was flavored with bourbon barrels.

On tap. Odd pale golden pour with a bit of white head. Doesn’t look at all like I thought it would. Nose is mostly bourbon with some vanilla. Smells better than is tastes - the barrel aging is nicely done but the base beer is lacking in flavor and consistency. Slightly sweet and woody.

Faint spice bourbon vanilla aroma. Head dissipates quickly on top of a clear deep amber ale. Distinct what I’m assuming is a bourbon taste with lots of carbonation. Like the aroma it has vanilla spice with hints of oak in the taste. Finishes clean with a noticeable warming sensation on the palate. Certainly one to be sipped and savored. I liked this one a lot and would definitely have another at any time.

12 oz bottle thanks to pineypower, thanks Dean. Poured a slightly thinner body of deep golden orange under a smaller super tight foamy white head. Aroma is nice with lots of vanilla, bourbon, oak but sadly no real unerlying beer notes. Flavor is the same and rather spicy with lots of alochol and bourbon. The body is a bit thin yet syrupy at the same time with carbonation that makes the entire feel turn to a fuller foamy body. This is aged nicely it just needs a better base beer.

One of the best brews I’ve tasted. Malty vanilla flavor which goes down very smoothly. 9% ABV, but you can’t tell. I thoroughly enjoyed this beer.

Pours a clear gold. Thin white head. Slightly Bourbon filled aroma. Kind of bland, surprisingly.
