COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale™ With a little creative curiosity, we used spent bourbon casks, fresh from decanting, and filled them with our very own Kentucky Ale. From barrels that once held the finest bourbons of Kentucky, we present Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, a smooth, golden elixir unlike any other. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrel. We attribute this to what the bourbon maker calls the “angel’s share”. Elegantly smooth and modestly carbonated, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is a fine sipping ale with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted Kentucky bourbon.

I want to rank this higher just because it is a light bourbon beer but I cannot. The base ale is just too light and unfulfilling to do it. Light bourbon smell and nice light bourbon flavor but that is all going for it.

Tap. interesting take on a golden beer! Clear gold pour with a minimal head. Aroma and taste of oak, bourbon, and vanilla. Nice easy drinking lighter beer with character.

Courtesy of trimon77 pouring clear deep gold with off white head. The aroma has oak, vanilla and then mild booziness at the end of the draw. Smooth aroma that lacks beeriness. The taste is nice with sweet vanilla mixing with sweet malts, a sense of roasted malts, then some oak and bourbon. Smooth barrel forward brew.

bottle: pours a clear amber with a thick white head. on the nose, gingerbread cookies, vanilla, caramel, woody oak. Lively carbonation. pretty smooth with the creaminess represented from the malts. too sweet for me but interesting and not bad.

Served from a 12 oz bottle thanks to Craig. The appearance is a fairly clear golden hue. The aromas are creamy, some vanilla, some off aromas too. The flavors are very buttery and creamy, a touch of barrel and bourbon in the after taste. The mouth is medium bodied. This was a curious offering with such a lighter bodied beer in bourbon barrels that turned out pretty decent.

Really? 3.1? Come on now, even if you don’t like bourbon, you can surely appreciate how much flavour they were able to cram into such a light, easy drinking beer. The aroma is sweet, dominated by bourbon, surprise. The flavour is great, like the aroma it is sweet and dominated by bourbon, vanilla and caramel are the stars, there is a very VERY light bitter note of hops, barely noticeable, the finish is creamy vanilla, slightly dry, and absolutely awesome. Maybe it’s because I love bourbon almost as much as i love beer. But this stuff I thought to be absolutely fantastic, the finish is great.

Starts out with vanilla and finishes with a hint of bourbon. Overall a very easy drinking lighter ale with a fair amount of flavor. The nice thing with this ale is its drinkability. Very nice brew.

Some vanilla and hot alcohol aroma. Up front the flavour is quite sweet, then some dryness followed by the wood notes and then bourbon which is almost a hint coconut too. Different, but not really that appealing.

Sampled at GABF on 9/16/2010. This blond ale pours a light gold color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet with atouch of caramel. A light to medium bodied golden ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are slightly herbal. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Kind of light tasting, even for a blond ale. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Served in a mini-snifter. Clear caramel colored liquid with a very fine head of white foam. Nose faintly of vanilla. This beer has a very definite bourbon quality. Taste is mild malt, almost no hop presence, more of the smooth vanilla and bourbon-ish notes. Body was rather thin, this was the most disconcerting part of this beer. Seemed watery. Finish was also rather blah. Overall, for some reason, I found this beer disappointing.
