COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Award-winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Ale® is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after-dinner drink. Launched in 2006, it has grown to become the flagship beer of the premier name in barrel-aged beers: Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.

Courtesy of Cousin Jim. Pours clear amber with small frothy foam head. Aroma is tinny with a bit of bourbon. Flavor is rich caramel bourbon malt and vanilla. Body is rich, but much lighter than most beers with this kind of big bourbon flavor. Finishes sweet like melted vanilla ice cream.

Draft. Amber color, clear. Surprisingly smooth for the strong bourbon aroma and taste... I kept expecting an alcohol burn but stayed smooth. Beer itself is light.

Bottled. Poured clear, lighter honeyed orange with a fairly tall, well-retained white head. The aroma picked up lots of fairly aggressive bourbon that gave me shivers with a deep inhale.. vanilla and bready malts deeper down.. not a very interesting base beer. The flavor found pale and bready malts at the core, with a lot of residual toasty grains that stuck on the back-end.. not much hoppage to note.. finished quick and bourbonny, with more toasty grains. Medium-bodied at most on the palate, and very dry.. prickly from the bourbon.. not a great beer.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2011 Poured a clear amber with a medium sized light tan head. Nose of bourbon, Not much else. Medium body and a carbonated mouthfeel. The flavor is sweet and an almost overwhelming bourbon barrel taste.l. Finish is alcoholic. Kind of one dimensional but improves on the Kentucky Ale from which it was derived.

Had on tap. Served in a snifter. Appearance is a clear, light brown. There is a thin head that doesn’t stick around for long. Smells overwhelmingly of bourbon with vanilla being the predominant smell. At first sip there is a strong punch of bourbon. This is followed by vanilla along with some light oakiness. After sipping on the beer for awhile, the bourbon flavors subside and maltiness becomes much more predominant. I can detect very little alcohol flavor. The mouthfeel is a little light but I don’t feel it is off-putting. Overall I think this is a very good bourbon barrel beer. The body could be thicker but the beer is fairly well balanced and is an excellent sipper.

Amber with a small off-white head. Malty aroma with lots of bourbon. Cloying sweet malt and bourbon flavour.

A beautiful orange cognac ale with a thin white head. In aroma, light peanuty malt, with bourbon infused butter pecans, interesting. In mouth, a smooth sweet buttered up nuts, like a liqueur, but a bit thin and simple. On tap at Meadhall, Oct. 10 2011.

On tap at Vintage Estates in Ohio. Decent tasting beer, because I love the taste of bourbon, I enjoyed this beer. There is a light taste of bourbon, nicely done from the lining of the bourbon barrels (creative). Well balanced beer, vanilla taste, and yes 8% abv. You can definitely taste this in the brew. One was enough for me.

À la manière de la Innis and Gunn, une ale sans personnalité sinon ce que le bourbon lui apporte. Vanille, caramel rehaussent légèrement son corps plutôt mince. Facile à boire cependant.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Clear amber, small coarse head. Evident bourbon/vanilla aroma. Sweet and buttery with medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Mild with lasting flavours of caramel and bourbon. Low bitterness.
