Award-winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Ale® is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after-dinner drink. Launched in 2006, it has grown to become the flagship beer of the premier name in barrel-aged beers: Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.

On tap at Oxford, OH. Pours orange with a long lasting white head. Nose is of caramel, tropical fruit, vanilla and cacao. Body is medium, crisp. Taste is funky yeast, vanilla, alcohol, topical fruit, citrus, bourbon, and cacao. Finish is medium and semi-dry. Interesting brew.

Drank out the bottle, smooth taste with subtle notes of vanilla and bourbon. Little to no after taste.

Pours a red with a quickly fading white head. Aroma has lots of vanilla, which helps mask the whiskey impressions. Taste is a balanced mixture of vanilla and whiskey. Some oak undertones. Smooth like liquor and surprisingly easy to drink. Alcohol content in here jumps out at you. This one is straight forward and doesn’t hide anything. If you like whiskey, this one is just fine.

I tried this at the American Craft beer Fest in Boston and this is by far one of the best beers I have ever had. The bourbon flavor gives this ale such a smooth taste. It should be drank from a snifter and enjoyed with a cigar. Perfect beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer gets a perfect score for me. The perfect blend of beer and bourbon makes this a easy to drink with a smooth finish. I have not had anything better.

I heard the taste described as bourbon with water. I found this to be accurate. If you like bourbon then you might like this beer, if you don’t, like me, then you will probably not like this beer.

Sampled at the 2012 American Craft Beer Festival. Not the best beer. A little bourbon but not much. Maybe I just hate everything from Lexington.

A pretty brown-golden look like a sarsaparilla. Malt sweetness under a heavy bourbon aroma. Bourbon and vanilla were there in the taste, but it felt too thin. Very sweet. Smooth and watery mouthfeel. I don’t want too watery of a beer if I am drinking a bourbon aged beer, so pretty disappointed.

Pours golden with thick white head. Aroma is a little weak, which was unexpected, but shows the bourbon. This is a bourbon beer. Bourbon on the front, bourbon on the back, boozy bourbon finish. A little oversweet and unbalanced, but if you like watered down bourbon, this is the beer for you.

Snifter at Timothy O’Toole’s during Chicago Craft Beer Week. Clearly I’m showing more love for this than most raters; maybe coming from a tap helps? Golden bourbon color: the brewmaster really picked his grains well. A thin ring of foam with a scrum of bubbles in the center. The smell is bourbon and branch, a moderate amount of alcohol. The taste carries through with that smooth Kentucky bourbon impression. Limited bittering, just enough to stay out of the way. Impression is right between sippin’ and slurpin;. Besides, this was just $5.50, great price for a Streeterville bar.
