Award-winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Aleģ is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Aleģ is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentuckyís finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after-dinner drink. Launched in 2006, it has grown to become the flagship beer of the premier name in barrel-aged beers: Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.

A disappointment for me. It poured a nice clear amber hue to it with no head to it. Seemed a little thin, but did have a nice bourbon look to it. Aroma had a nice subtle bourbon quality about it. Small vanilla and light oak to it, however that was all the aroma had to it. It really lacked any depth by not having any hops or malts to enhance the aroma. It did not need an aggressive hop profile just a little something to let you know it was there. Flavor was similar a nice bourbon flavor that was present but was restrained. Too many bourbon aged beers seem a little too unyeilding. Once again it lacked any ale characteristics. So the flavor was more disappointing than the aroma. Palate was thin and light. It lacked carbonation which was a good thing.

All the familiar characteristics of a good bourbon hit me immediately. That oakey and vanilla scent, the copper color. It drinks like the smoothest bourbon youíve ever had with that unctuous buttery feel going down. And a hint of residual warmth. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is delicious, smooth, and has an aggressive, tricky 8% ABV.

Purchased at Hyde Park Wine & Spirits in Cincinnati, OH; enjoyed after going back to work after the Labor Day weekend...head hurts. Appearance a rather clear light amber with tiny carbonation bubbles and almost no head...almost looks like a full pint of bourbon. Aroma of bourbon and ale yeast, also a small bit of caramel malt. Taste mostly dominated by bourbon, rather light and soothing flavor, slightly sweet with very faint vanilla notes, medium body and lighter carbonation. Iím not getting many ale qualities out of the flavor, tastes like more watered down bourbon...but Iím not complaining. Pretty good stuff, wish it had more beer-like qualities.

On tap : Pour is clear, medium golden with a fairly modest off white head in this snifter. The nose on this one provides typical barrel aged notes of vanilla, oak, fruit esters - the flavor profile is muted. You can call that drinkable, but Iím going to call it devoid of flavor - vanilla, oak, spices but a mediocre base beer here.

Sweet buttery bourbon aroma. Soft and mellow. Good malty body, good balance, easy to drink. Touch sweet and slick.

Bottle. Amber beer with a soon disappearing fizzy head. The aroma is very lightly malty, and the flavour is malty with a hint of bitterness and a very large amount of bourbon spirit flavour. Overall a disappointing strong beer.

Draft in a snifter at the Lucky Dog in Mason, Ohio, for $4.50. Clear orange color. Thin white head. Some lacing. Very drinkable, perfect amount of carbonation. Very good savory taste, aroma is a bit lighter than I hoped, though, but itís still a nice bourbon spice (particularly in the nose) without a trace of alcohol.

Bottle @ GBBF 2011. A clear copper/amber colored beer, with a off white head. The aroma of vanilla, wood with fruits and hops. The taste has fruits, some hops with vanilla notes. The aftertaste is gentle bitter with sweets.

12 oz bottle. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is lots of vanilla and american oak with some caramel and coconut. Flavor is bourbon and caramel with a light hop bitterness and some tanic wood. Medium body with average carbonation and a long oaky finish. Nice beer, lots of bourbon and oak character while staying on the lighter side.
