Award-winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Ale® is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after-dinner drink. Launched in 2006, it has grown to become the flagship beer of the premier name in barrel-aged beers: Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company.

This beer is way too sweet in my opinion. That is about the only thing that stands out about this beer. Malty Sweet. Way too much sweetness and not enough balance to be classified as an amber ale.

The aroma is the best quality of this beer: smooth, full, enticing, and roasty. The appearance is copper and lighter than I expected of a barrel aged beer. The taste is a bit of caramel with some delicate roastiness and a certain vanilla woody element. The body is medium with light bittering, muted by barrel aging, and the alcohol is hidden. Good but not a favorite, and rather pricey for what it is.

Very weak for a bourbon barrel, too mass produced. Aroma is very chemical-ish, faint bourbon, oak. Taste is chemical, vanilla, slightly boozy. Easy pass.

Poured a clear amber color. Light bourbon sweetness, lots of booze in this. Light oak, vanilla. Caramel malts, with some light bourbon, vanilla and oak notes. Light sweet booze finish.

Bottle at America on tap. Rich caramel with hints of vanilla and oak with a bit of sweetness to round it all out. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

12 oz bottle, 10/3/15. Decent-to-light aroma of malty sweetness and some light barrel notes. Flavor is along the same lines. Light burn on the mouthfeel, which is solid, but not better than that.. Overall, this one is not bad, but not special, but at it’s price point I can certainly seem the appeal.

On tap at Bar Symon, Dulles. Bold amber body with slight head. Nose is sweet, vanilla, bourbon. Taste is malts, fruits, sweet, candy and licorice definitely, and lots of fruits. Kicks in a bit at the end. Too subdued probably and not ambitious enough.

I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours a ruby color with a decent white head and some lacing. The aroma is bourbon, sweet corn, and bread. The taste is sour, bourbon, and corn. You get a little of the bourbon burn with some sweetness and some sour. There’s a nice warming quality to it. I thought this was nicely done.
