COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale™ With a little creative curiosity, we used spent bourbon casks, fresh from decanting, and filled them with our very own Kentucky Ale. From barrels that once held the finest bourbons of Kentucky, we present Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, a smooth, golden elixir unlike any other. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrel. We attribute this to what the bourbon maker calls the “angel’s share”. Elegantly smooth and modestly carbonated, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is a fine sipping ale with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted Kentucky bourbon.

Bottle with friends. Golden orange appearance with a khaki head. Caramel, chewy oak, vanilla, some bourbon, and a bit of fruit. Apple, heavy oak, tannic flavor. Not very good.

Bottle, thanks Acknud! Well this is ann intersting brew. The aroma and flavors of Bourbon hit immediately. The beer also tastes of bourbon...too much honestly. It is a very bright and bold amber color with no head. Carbonation is light. Flavor of beer is lost in the Bourbon. Decent brew.

Bottle… DLD’08… Lightly hazy golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma is of toffee and bourbon with suggestions of burned rubber and resin… the apparent olfactory theme of the day. Light-bodied and fizzy. Perfectly balanced, but bland and mostly flavorless… with the lone exception being a miniscule hint of bourbon. Crisp, clean, thin finish.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2005 Hand bottle sampled shared courtesy of weeare138 (thanks Mike - special thanks for checking off another state for me!). Poured a medium and clear amber color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of bourbon, light vanilla, caramel and some wood. Tastes of bourbon, caramel and light vanilla. Softer body. I thought the barrel aging was done well with the bourbon tastes not on the overpowering side. Thinner body. With the bourbon presence, I would have thought the ABV was stronger than 4.5%.

A couple years’ ageing helped. Bourbon and mild roast nose. Though not thick, it’s a smooth mouthfeel with tons of foam. Bourbon and oak. A sipper.

Amber coloured beer with a thick white head. Deep strong bourbony aroma, toasted oak, caramel and heavy rich whisky. More bourbon character than any other bourbon beer I’ve ever had. It even seems to smell more alcoholic than the 4.5% ABV that is listed for it. Flavour is all bourbon up front, with a kiss of light cherry and some light caramel maltiness. Vanilla and oak finish that lasts forever. Very intense and comes across like a chilled, carbonated glass of bourbon. Some orangey flavour through the finish. It’s very intense, but it’s tough to finish. Too much bourbon character for such a light-bodied ale to handle.

Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. Pours a clear copper color with a thin creamy white head. Aroma of bourbon, butter and leafy hops. The taste is bourbon, butter and toasted malts. Medium bodied.

Wonderously rich and moderately sweet bourbon nose - there’s no fuss in this one, just straight bourbon, without being too forward and aggressive. Most bourbon barrel aged beer is the stout and porter variety, with a few strong ales in the mix as well, but with this one I actually really like the lack of roast and chocolate, it allows the simple malt sweetness to play with the sweet and almost fruity character of the bourbon, and the lack of harshness, the smoothness, and the sweetness of the malt integrates really well with the bourbon character. Vanilla bean, a little butter, a little wood, a light sweetness - I dig it.

Bottle from Party Source. The beer is a clear amber-orange color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Thin ting of lacing with spots under it. The aroma is pretty much all bourbon, with maybe a hint of malt buried under it. Medium-bodied with a bourbon overkill character of which the smell warned. Touches of woody malt and hops but again the bourbon overwhelms. The finish is oak and bourbon with a lingering whiskey aftertaste. Not for me.

Bottle. Vanilla cream, campfire smoke, and bourbon aroma. Nice amber color with small head. Smoky malt and light bourbon flavor with fairly strong vanilla flavor coming out and lasting well after swallowing. High acidity that gives a tingling sensation to the lips. Nice oak aftertaste. Very nice - really more like a bourbon and soda than a beer. Really like this beer, but I also love bourbon so really is the best of both worlds.
