Carefully crafted by Alltech’s master brewers, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout® builds on the success of its barrel-aged brother, the beloved Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale®. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout is brewed and aged with Alltech® Café Citadelle Haitian coffee and aged in world-famous Kentucky bourbon barrels. The result is a complex stout with dark-roasted malts, hints of caramel and vanilla and a lightly roasted coffee finish.

Notes of coffee and chocolate on the nose. Appearance is dark brown with a small almost none existent head. Coffee dominants the flavor. The oak flavor is way in the background. The malt flavor has notes of chocolate and is one dimensional. Hop bitterness is medium low. Mouthfeel is medium with a low level of carbonation. Overall, the beer lacks the aroma and flavor expected from an oak aged stout. Malt flavor is one dimensional and the hop bitterness is too low. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pours opaque black into the glass, thin off-white head. Aroma of bitter coffee and roasted barley. Head quickly dissipates, some vanilla and caramel notes. Something reminiscent of turpentine in the finish? Good, but for the money I like others better.

This was a nice surprise. Very toasty to start with chocolate and a vanilla/oak finish. Very tasty.

An incredible stout with superb aroma, appearance, finish and taste. I recommend this beer to any stout lover. On par with New Holland’s "Dragon’s Milk."

Light and maybe even a touch simple for the style. Coca and chocolate linings in the mouth; surprisingly it takes a chill very well indeed (summer drinking?). Sweet wood late.

12oz bottle from Manahawkin Spirits. Poured a medium density pitch black under a smaller tight foamy off white head. Aroma started off with vegetable notes but luckily that quickly faded and didn’t return. Other notes of burnt wood, light bourbon, charcoal, raosty, burnt malts, burnt toast and some vanilla extract. The body is odd, it seems like a thin mouthfeel at first but as you swallow it becomes more of a medium body, strong carbonation for a BA beer and at the very end comes the alcohol heat. Flavor is actually a little weaker than the aroma. Notes of charcoal, burnt wood, light bourbon and a touch of vanilla and dark chocolate.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks zvikar. Clear dark brown, transparent in front of light, with a small tan head. Aroma of lots of coffee, some bourbon, vanilla, caramel and a bit of chocolate. Sweet flavor, caramelly, with coffee beans, some roast and a bit of vanilla. Medium-bodied, quite light for the stale. Decent.

Opaque black with a small, tan head that left no lacing on the glass. Aroma or roasted malt, char, cocoa, wood, and light bourbon. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, wood, and light bourbon. Not bad, just nothing special about this one.

Bottle. While I love bourbon stouts this is probably the worst out there. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll drink it all night long but the taste pales compared to Goose Island and others. Limited malt, sweetness, and bourbon flavor. The bud of bourbon stouts.
