COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrels that once contained world-famous Kentucky Bourbon lend a sweet hint of caramel and vanilla to dark-roasted malts and finish with the essence of a lightly roasted coffee. The barrel-aged flavors native to Kentucky compliment this complex stout brewed and aged with Haitian coffee to create the bourbon country’s own Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout.

12oz bottle. Black pour, force carbonated, no head. Ugh, huge nose of whiskey barrel. Smells of burn & roasted malts. Charred aroma with big alcohol. Initially it has a flavor if rancid coconut water & coffee roast. Then loads of char, even more flavors of coffee, green coffee, bourbon vanilla, oak chips, roasted burnt malts. (3945)

Bottle from Gendarmenmarkt. Nearly no foam, pitch black color. Chocolate, toffee and smoky whiskey, alcoholic bourbon aroma is very present. Has an medium body with an oily, slick mouthfeel. Espresso flavor, going along with heavy bourbon, highlighting an usual aggressive alcoholic presence for a stout. Feathered by chocolate flavors, soon getting overpowered by an upcoming bitterness in the end. Also unusual high carbonation, with a metallic hint in it. Strong coffee finish, but not very long lasting.

Bottle courtesy of Pedro. Pours a deep brown, not quite black, thin diminishing tan head and spots of lace.Nose of coffee, roast, faint vanilla, and chocolate malt. Surprising light body, some coffee bitterness. I didn’t really care for it.

Nearly impenetrable to light. Very dark with carbonation bubbles migrating around the sides to perpetuate a thin tan ring. Mild fruit and coffee on the nose. Texture isn’t off putting, but it doesn’t have the richness one would expect. Flavors of freezer burn, tart fruit, tobacco, and coffee. Mild flavors for a barrel aged imperial.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. The pour is dark brown to near black with a short-lived head. The aroma is overpowered by the bourbon which smells more like wine. But once I wince my way through that I do get a milder dark malt or chocolate feel. Lighter to medium body. The taste is a bit better than the aroma with a slightly more notable chocolate flavor. But all in all this comes across as quite sour; more so than other stouts.

Bottle - Bought Aug 2013; BBE undated; Drank Dec 2013 - Very Dark Brown in colour. Malty; roasted malts, coffee, caramel, vanilla and a little dark chocolate. Light Bourbon notes. Overall quite sweet. OK. Easy drinking. Wouldn’t have guessed it is an Impy Stout. Decent enough.
