3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2015 pours dark-chocolate brown-black with a fine veil of warm crema head. Fades to nothing immediately, but oily rings and patterns of residual bubbles can still be found for a while. Aroma is strong very-dark chocolate (the artisan, high-cocao stuff.) Light mineral, but combined with the chocolate, it is pleasant. More cocoa, holey moley! Hint of grass, bbq, and smoke. In the flavor, the smoked wood really comes out, minimal vanilla though, given its a bourbon barrel, moderate BBQ, hint of molasses, chocolate is surprisingly subdued given its dominance of the aroma. Roasty. Body is medium, bit on the oily side, with hot, prickly carbonation. Overall, a very dark tasting stout, with subtle bits of smoke and very little usual bourbon vanilla. Its underrated, but still not as quaffable as the usual, vanilla-bomb bourbon barrel beers, in my opinion.

3.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A great stout from the get-go. One poured it had a wonderful balanced aroma of expresso and bourbon. Nice and dark appearance. Good mouth feel even if it was thin. Great combination of being sweet and dry/bitter. They didn’t over board with a strong coffee flavor and added just a hint of bourbon that wasn’t over powering. It did seem a little watered down. This has to be one of my favorite stouts.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
New Beer Distributors, NYC 12 ounce ($4): Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is espresso, vanilla, sugar, and a bit of bourbon. This is barrel-aged, but nothing compared to what the crazier more artisanal breweries are doing. That said, what we are left with here is a pleasant a drinkable imperial stout. It is well balanced enough, not being too sweet or particularly bitter. Pretty good.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - 355ml. Pours a black body with a thin, diminishing, brown bubbly head. Rich malty/hoppy aroma with vanilla, oaky, Bourbon, and roasty hints. Alcohol is subtle. Its taste carries strong woody notes. Bourbon, licorice, and roasted coffee are also noticeable. Ends with a long oaky/roasty finish. The warming effect takes place afterwards. Enjoyable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark body with light brown head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee and alcohol. Taste is similar. Lots of coffee, some fruits and dark chocolate. Luckily the booze is not dominant.

Tyűha. Dohos egy hordó lehetett ez. Szavak amelyekkel jellemezni tudnám: cough drop, horse blanket, rotten eggs, barnyard, basement aromas, cereal, chocolate, coffee, roasty and smoke. Haiti csak humbuk lehet, megítélésem alapján. Marketingfogás. A végén az utóízében jön csak ki igazán a bőrbőn barrel, az orrban dohog. Éljen. Nem nagy szám.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Drinkstore
Pitch black, big frothy tan head that dissipates to thin layer
Aroma of wood, soft burnt notes, ashy, then a dab of dark fruity malt
Taste of dark malts, soft burnt, woody, lots of coffee, bit ashy, touch of dark fruits then more come through with the drinking, taste better than the aroma
Palate - medium carb, thin to medium body, bit thin, fairly sweet. Finish as main flavour, soft dark fruits, bit of wood, rapid finish
Overall - Aroma initially just wood and ash, lacked complexity, but some dark fruity malts eventually came through. Taste was better, palate a bit thin. Bit rough around the edges, but not bad

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle. Quite fizzy, and not as thick of a pour as I thought it would be. The aroma is chocolate and wood. There are tones of coffee in the aroma, too. This has a decent aroma, but it’s nothing terribly special. There’s a hint of wood, but there’s plenty of chocolate and roast. The vanilla is poking through at times. This doesn’t have a rich texture, as I thought it would, which is a little disappointing. Overall, this is fine, but pales in comparison to a lot of the wood-aged stouts out there.
