3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 rangerred (659) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - NOV 26, 2012
12oz bottle into a snifter.
Pours jet black with a thin tan head. A decent sized ring is left around the edge of the glass on top of the beer.
Coffee is very prominent on the aroma with a lot of roast and caramel along with a healthy dose of chocolate which surprised me a little bit. A somewhat subdued vanilla not but I can’t really detect much bourbon. Nonetheless a very inviting aroma.
The flavor has lots of coffee and caramel up front but not in as strong of dose as is present in the aroma. Almost no bourbon at all but rather vanilla, chocolate and caramel. All of the flavors are a little bit thin but they work well together. Roast and char lingers long after the other flavors have cleared up. Mouthfeel is quite thin for the style with a light bitterness and a lingering stickiness.
Overall, a good coffee stout but not on par with Founders Breakfast Stout and roughly the same price. If this becomes available in TN I will gladly pick it up because of no alternatives. In other parts of the country, however, there are better alternatives.

It's a very rich beer with lots of character that its not overpowering taste with a nice punch. Rich nutty malt with a feel of caramel and butter. Not too hoppy but its worth.

The aroma is very toasted with coffee, chocolate, wood, and a touch of booze. The appearance is dark brown with a small head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall I like it and it had no major faults it’s just a little underwhelming for an imperial. I don’t get a lot of the bourbon.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 wnoble (918) - French Lick, Indiana, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Pours dark brown from the bottle. Heady is fizzy brown and quickly fades to a nothing. Aroma is solid and sweet- raw sugar, molasses, chocolate, some roasty notes, bread, toffee. Flavor is chocolate, bread, sugary sweet malts. The mouthfeel is there but is really lacking some texture and richness. Kinda a bit thin but you can tell its a bigger beer. Flavors are good but is a touch over carbed and lacks the silky richness i expect.

Love this stout. Leaves you with that warm feeling in your belly just as if you were drinking bourbon. Perfect balance!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 ExpendableHero (656) - Florida, USA - MAY 8, 2013
Color me impressed. Dark cola colored beer with a thin, off-white head. Aromas of strong, roasted coffee. Tastes of rich, dark coffee, dark chocolate, and balanced out by some dry hops. Taste of semi-sweet bourbon is in the finish along with woody/earthy notes. While bourbon and dark chocolate flavors are tasty, the flavors are dominated by the roasted, dark coffee flavors. Delicious, intense, and enjoyable.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbruner (1117) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Pours an opaque black on tap with thin ring of tan lace. Aroma is heavy roasted malt and coffee, a hint of bourbon on the back end. Taste is coffee and then a hint of vanilla, no real booze presence. Decent, but nothing great.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 WabashMan (970) - Noblesville, Indiana, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Considering the ABV and, even more so, the price of a single 12 oz bottle, this is a fairly disappointing brew. Pours a dark brown with a decent head that quickly disappears. Nose is sweet --- alcohol and dark fruits with a bit of roasted malt. Flavor is much the same, though the roast is really minimal. For an imperial stout, this is pretty thin in flavor and doesn’t offer much complexity. Decent and drinkable, but hardly a notable offering for the style.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 drowland (4980) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - APR 27, 2013
4/27/13. 12oz bottle from Grassroots. Deep brown pour, almost black, with a small khaki head that is gone instantly. Caramel, butter, apples, oak, fudge, and light coffee on the aroma. Not good. Butter, caramel, coffee and green pepper, and some fudge and bourbon in the flavor. Not good.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BMMillsy (679) - Florida, USA - APR 21, 2013
First Kentucky rate. Pours black with no head. A bit of light shining through makes me think this could be a little thin. Big chocolate and a bit of bourbon on the nose and definite rich coffee presence. Lots of spicy earthy coffee and only a hint of bourbon. Dry oak finish. Medium carbonation that is rather prickly along with the coffee. Lingering alcohol burn on the tongue. For an imperial, this would be thin but I honestly don’t think it is an impy. It is a rather solid coffee stout or porter.

Dark, deep flavors, sweet, but not too much so. Rich flavor that goes down smooth. Good.
