COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale is a barrel-aged ale brewed with Kentucky-sourced pumpkin, richly spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. As the ale is aged in fresh bourbon barrels, the sweetness of caramel and vanilla are imparted upon the brew and complement its spicier base. At 10 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), this robust, limited release seasonal makes for a flavorful sipping beer to slowly warm up with as the weather cools. Some retailers will be offering collectible jack-o-latern snifters along with the ale.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Pours a sparkling medium copper with a thin off-white head. Aroma has strong presence of bourbon with a hint of ripening vegetables. Flavor is bourbon forward with some back end pumpkin spice notes,a touch of canned pumpkin. Mouthfeel is thick enough. 12 oz is enough - edging into cloying territory with the bourbon.

12 oz. bottle from Dutch’s. Pours a totally clear orange-hued gold with a small white head. Buttery aroma of vanilla, butterscotch, spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice), and bourbon warmth at the end. Very sweet nose. Flavor of vanilla, bourbon, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and toasted sugar- not a lot of pumpkin. Light-bodied, with a sweet, warm, mildly spicy, and dry mouthfeel and moderate to medium carbonation. Not much body to this one; could be better.

Pours clear golden color with white head. Aromas of pumpkin pie and bourbon. Tastes like pumpkin pie soaked in bourbon with some wood. Medium body with average carbonation. Strange but decent.

Bottled. Poured clear, light golden with a short cap of white head. The aroma picked up lots of sweet pumpkin meat, vanilla, nutmeg, and bourbon.. kind of a rough bourbon bite on the back of the nose.. still smelled sticky, sweet, pie-like, and delicious, though. The flavor found tart oak and medicinal notes on the tip of the tongue, with sweet bourbon and hefty doses of nutmeg, cardamom, and cinnamon following.. pale malts and more bourbon at the core.. tangy and dry on the back-end, leaving some belly warmth. Medium-bodied and dry on the palate.. tangy from the barrel.. there just wasn’t enough pumpkin-y base beer for it to be great.

12oz bottle into a snifter. Pours a clear light gold with a fizzy half finger head. Not much head retention save for a ring around the top of the beer. The aroma has lots of vanilla and a very creamy quality to it. Cinnamon and nutmeg come through along with the bourbon which shows itself in the vanilla and a touch of wood. Creamy vanilla up front in the flavor quickly followed by spices. Wood is in the background along with a light whiff of alcohol. Unfortunately, the mouthfeel is on the watery side with just the slightest bit of stickyness. Alcohol is very well hidden. Overall, a decent beer and a nice unique take on a pumpkin beer. I only wish the mouthfeel was a bit more substantial and the flavors a little more defined. It is all just a little bit of a mess.

12oz bottle shared. Not your typical color for a pumpkin ale. A lighter orange color with off white head. The aroma is bourbon pumpkin and some spice. The flavor is initially pumpkin nice flavor and then quickly disappears into a onrush of bourbon. Matched very nicely and warms thyself. Overall good pumpkin beer.

Nice. Golden to orange pour with white head. Aroma very faint pumpkin and spice. Taste comes more forward. Nice balance. Not overwhelming.

10/22/13 trade from Jamil. Solid blend of bourbon and pumpkin flavor. Could use more spice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Comes out of the growler a nice clear golden with a fluffy eggshell head. Aroma has a strong note of bourbon-soaked oak - and pumpkin. Aaaaah, pumpkin, fresh pumpkin. Flavor adds to a core of delicious fresh pumpkin strong notes of bourbon, oak, and - butterscotch? Whatever, it’s quite tasty. Texture is firm and smooth, quite firm, good fizz. Just a snip above "good" in all categories - but watch out, it will sneak up on you like a cat on your toes while you sleep in bed. Enjoy responsibility, and Happy Samhain!
