Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale is a barrel-aged ale brewed with Kentucky-sourced pumpkin, richly spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. As the ale is aged in fresh bourbon barrels, the sweetness of caramel and vanilla are imparted upon the brew and complement its spicier base. At 10 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), this robust, limited release seasonal makes for a flavorful sipping beer to slowly warm up with as the weather cools. Some retailers will be offering collectible jack-o-latern snifters along with the ale.

Bottle. Strong nutmeg, buttery brown sugar, light pumpkin malt and oaky vanilla aroma. Clear brassy gold with a moderate off-white head. Cinnamon, nutmeg, oaky boozy bourbon, and pumpkin malt flavor. Body on the light side of medium, moderate carbonation. This one got boozier as it warmed, and a bit of vegetal note also developed.

So, I bought this thinking that it is likely to be another spice bomb, cloyingly sweet and difficult to drink more than one. But I was pleasantly surprised - Sure there was good deal of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, but also a lot of bourbon. It didnít seem like a train wreck - instead, the bourbon flavors seemed to smooth out the spices and all the flavors seemed to work together. Not Bad!

Draft to taster. Looks weak for a barrel-aged pumpkin beer; a completely transparent light gold with thin white lacing. Smells of pumpkin, spices, and mild bourbon and oak. Tastes like it smells with more of a bourbon presence. Average on the palate. Decent, but could (and should) be so much better than it is, especially for being barreled.

The vanilla note from the bourbon barrel blends nicely with the pumpkin spicing. The caramel malt supports this as well, but itís not too sweet. Actually, itís suprisingly light-bodied for a beer of its size. The main flaw is a slightly harsh heat in the finish. Otherwise quite the tasty beer.

Bottle: The aroma consists of nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel, butterscotch, and bourbon. It pours a transparent amber with a one finger off-white head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with a quick dose of nutmeg and cinnamon. The finish has moderate butterscotch, caramel, vanilla, and bourbon. Itís medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, the butterscotch is too much and simply out of place. In addition, I donít like butterscotch...even if it was supposed to be here.

Clear golden colour with a small white head. Mild sweetness, malt and mild spices in an aroma. Sweet fruits, malt and mild spices in the flavour. Sticky.

12 oz. Clear orange-amber with a lasting spit of cream on top. Nose is butterscotch liqueur, vanilla and maybe a hint of pumpkin. Taste is the same without the alcohol plus a hint of spice and a nice finish of oak. Medium body has a nice balance, smooth carbonation and is drinkably thinned by the well-hidden 10% abv. Very similar to the Bourbon Barrel Ale but smoother, even with the higher abv. Iím grateful for the low dose of pie spices but would have liked more pumpkin.

Aroma: Nice, tempting notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and (of course) pumpkin which really plays well with the bourbon, which is present but not overpowering. In my opinion, about as great as a pumpkin beer can smell. Appearance: Rich copper with a nice, softly rolling carbonation; the head is bone coloured and a little creamy. Flavor: Matches the nose; the pumpkin and spice meets you up front and the bourbon creeps in and sustains until the finish. Quite warming and comforting. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: I didnít want to like this beer as much as I do; itís by far the best pumpkin beer Iíve had, Alltechís finest beer, and just a damn good beer period. Seek this out while it lasts.

12oz bottle - pour clear pale amber with huge huge head that slowly disappears. Nose is nutmeg, wood, cinnamon, and bourbon. Sip introduces pumpkin, caramel, and a tad of booze or is it a chock. Fairly sweet and medium bodied. A lot easier to drink that the normal barrel ale, and not as boozy. the misses does not care for this, even though she is an avid anything-pumpkin fan. Strangely easy to drink. wooooOOOOOooooOOOOOooooo.
