22oz bottle. Amber, very little head. Roma comes out w/ carmel malt, then shows some roast, maybe some toffee...nutty doughy carmel...Fair overall. Like the Mehana, the finish seems tainted...slighty papery or earthy...maybe it is the water???I warm up to it as it warms...its alright! offering a fairly deep malt base. So far the best & maltiest HI beer i’ve had. Body is done right as well...Forget my questions...this is a nice maltster!

"With all-natural ingredients, the Kauai Sunset’s mahogany color hints at it’s subtle balance of delicious, rich flavors. A slight roasted malt taste and good hop aroma gives this beer a bittersweet chocolate complexity and a velvet-like body with a quaffable character." Is that the right commercial decription? What I’m drinking is a fairly decent APA, bright orange (mahogany?) in color with a quickly collapsing white head. The aroma is a caramel malt with citric hopping, mainly orange and orange rind. The flavor is fairly well balanced between malt & hop, and it finishes on an earthy, bitter note. Not bad.

Aroma is doughy and grainy; heavy caramel background; citric hopping with a well balanced palate; not bad at all.

Clear sparkling dark orange, thin white head. Inviting nose of fresh grains, toast, toffee, a hint of butter, with a slight nutty earthiness to it. Very nice balance with the caramel malt intertwining with the light floral hop character. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, crisp, yet malty drying finish. Brings me right back to sunset on the Na Pali coast. Very nice.....

On tap at Honolulu Int’l airport. Poured a clear light amber with a medium tan head. Mild hop aroma. Quite a hoppy little pale with a light citrus flavor. Finishes crisp and clean with light dryness. Very nice.

Light golden amber, with small head. Nose has some hops and nuttiness. Nice mouthfeel with some sparkle. Flavors are muted though a hazelnut flavor melds with the hop profile nicely. Finish is short but nice ...I’d say not a bad session and one of the better Hawaiin beers I’ve had

OBF 2004. Medium orange color. Medium head. Aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet. A medium bodied Pale Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are slightly floral. An English style Pale Ale. Nicely balanced. Smooth taste. Lively carbonation. Might make a nice session ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

I seem to like this better than other raters do. Pours dark amber, transparent, with medium-sized head that lasts awhile. Strong hop aroma for an otherwise nondescript brew. Falvor is smooth hops with some malt and sweeter than expected (but I had just finished an intense IPA). Not very bitter. In fact, pretty watery mouthfeel. Still, a surprisingly decent offering from Hawaii, which I definitely don’t view as any origin of seriously good brews.
Better than expected. Friends brought this back from a recent trip.

This was a very poor offering. Was very deep yellow, slightly hazy, with little head retention. Smell was a very high citrus hop almost lemony to the point of floor cleaner. But was light and somewhat yeasty as well. Just take away the amonia and there ya go. Taste was very watered down hop. No real taste, slightly of lemon peel, plastic, and cardboard. Gritty, grimey feel and watery.
Was flavored water.
I was glad to share and compare with the person responsible for getting me this and the Gold. We both agreed on the Gold being better and this Sunset was over before it hit the horizon.

Pours a nice, bright red colour, but there's not much head, and it looks pretty lifeless in the glass. A bit of malt in the aroma, and something vaguely unpleasant in the background. Very little body, and the flavour is equally weak - a touch of malt in the opening, a hint of hops in the finish if you strain to find them. Boooooring.
