It was a tasty little devil, this one. Appeared as black as sin with a coffee coloured head and aromas and flavours of strong coffee and black strap molasses. It was unctuous and oily, as good stouts should be. Thoroughly enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The head is robust and beige, the body black. It smells roasty, coffee, chocolate, bit bitter-chocolate. The taste is chocolate-aromatic, coffee, a bit coffee-bitter. Easy drinkable and highly aromatic.

Right, it’s not a good day, as I just had a bitter experience with a Deschutes IPA. But let’s go: Moonless Stout. Not too impressed with the budget presentation. I know I shouldn’t be judging that...and the day gets worse with the temperature, as it is too warm, and so is the beer. So I have an excessive head, with excessive carbonation. Nice look, after all. looks stoutish, with a tan head. Aroma of plums, chocolate, woods, yes, some coffee, but nothing offensive and the roasts. Flavour of charred malts, chocolate and certain bitterness. Maybe char bitterness, but it’s all good. Not bad. It’s certainly as dry as the official description above, and there is a specific style for that, so I don’t understand why it comes here "only" as a stout. It is a nice beer, medium bodied, with something of an oak cask taste in the finish, the wood/fruit suggestion again. I guess I should probably re-visit this on a better day...

4.5% version from the bottle. Predominantly coffee aromas & flavours with a nice chocolate favour too. Moderate bitterness and great aftertaste. Not much to say, it works well, a little piece of perfection.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20
330ml bottle from the brewer. Pours dark, almost black with a pillowy head that dissipates fairly quickly. Subtle hints of chocolate and cocoa on the nose, taste has a little roastiness to it and is quite dry. Low carbonation and a thin, verging on watery body. A nice long roast malt finish with a well judged level of bitterness. Shame it hasnt more body.
