In bringing together artisans from disparate aural planes, one might expect an offbeat, feedback-warped cacophony, shrill to the point of unlistenable. Yet, by inviting Kyle Hollingsworth, keyboardist for eclectic, jam-prone sextet, The String Cheese Incident, and Keri Kelli, wailing rock guitarist of Alice Cooper fame, we were able to make truly beautiful music. Turns out, these musicians have a great deal in common, both with each other and with Stone. We all enjoy turning things up to 11, and that is represented in this collaborative offering, an imperial India pale ale ably backed by Nugget, Comet and Calypso hops, and amplified care of a healthy dry-hopping with Vic’s Secret, a new Australian hop, adding citrus and tropical fruit oomph. To give this modern masterpiece some soulful, classic character, we traced the roots of brewing to the days when Old World herbs were used to spice beers, adding in coriander and, a first for us, elderberries. To stand up to that sumptuous spice and blaring bitterness, we added golden naked oats, which are lightly roasted and add body and enhanced mouthfeel to the brew like a steady, unbreakable backbeat to an incendiary jam solo. Sit back, crank the volume and get lost in this operatic incarnation of genres combined in the name of invention.

640mL bottle Bottled 05/02/14 Hazy pale amber beer, holds a tight white foam. Plenty going on aroma-wise; unripe mango, melon, cut grass, woody herbs, pine sap, stonefruits with an background of rich biscuity malt. Has a properly chewy texture to it - you know there’s a considerable abv there - with moderate carbonation, drying booziness. Aggressive beer - lots of woody spice, hop resin, green tropical fruits & melons, powerful nearly woody/tannic bitterness & warming booze on a drawn out finish. What you kind of expect from a big Stone beer; brash, unapologetic, packed full of flavour. Do think the berries & coriander are lost in the mix though - why bother?!

22 oz bottle. Aroma rigthly proclaims this to be a juicy, fruity IPA. Elderberry is more apparent upon tasting, but coriander in the nose. High hop load nicely balanced by malts and oats.

[My bottle (660ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jercraigs & mabel] Pours a hazy copper-gold with an average size lasting frothy white head. Nice aroma is fruity and hoppy, a bit bready and lightly herbal. Flavour’s the same, fruity, hoppy and bready and with a nice bitter finish. Average bodied. Really good.

A- pours a lightly hazy fluorescent copper. Looks like an electric current should be flowing through it. Nice finger if light beige head and great lacing. S- large soap and yeast with a hint of bread factory. Tropical fruits and pepper follow. Floral, grass, coriander, honey, pine malts, caramel, and a muddled pollen all follow. Dusty leafy greens. Some orange pith. M- medium sticky body with a medium resin palate. Decent carb. T- flavors are the life of the party. Creamy caramel at first with some resin to follow. Very sweet entry. Turns bitter quick with hops, tropical fruits, orange and grapefruit (maybe some elderberry). Malts return towards the end with some spice, grasses and soap. The hop character is pronounced and wants to be recognized (maybe the Vic’s Secret?), but cannot quite separate from other huge IPAs. Still a beer any ipa-phile would appreciate.

Sweet and nearly shockingly bitter. Hop oils galore on the nose, feel and flavor. Very fresh. Citric and oily. Elderberries are buried but the coriander comes through a bit, especially in the dry for a beer of this size finish. Nice treat for the unapologetic hop lover. Not sure if their prices are climbing or this was an anomaly...

2014-08-08. Crisp golden orange body with a modest off white head. 3+ Aroma is pretty interesting with a melange of hops at first the spice of elderberries and coriander seems to take over when I come back to it. Lots of greenery. Flavour is similar with modest bitterness throughout, fruity notes, citrus and tropical fruit, it gains more significant bitterness as it goes on. Lovely elements that all come together a bit strangely but it’s pretty good overall. Average bodied palate, modest carbonation. Bottle shared by Blankboy

Bomber from Ram Liquor’s. Appearance: 2 fingers khaki head, amber color, clear, head lasts, good lacing. Aroma: caramel, floral, grassy, light lemon. Palate: medium body, bitter lasting finish, sticky texture, average carbonation, alcohol warmness. Taste: light fruit sweetness and caramel, with hard hitting bitterness coming through quickly after, and then fading to a nice peacefull bitter. Overall, really nice, unique, not a full bomber per person beer, but enjoyable.
