COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“The Name Says it All” Just Outstanding has an orange amber body that combines a zesty and bitter characteristic, a generous malty taste and an exquisite floral aroma – Oh yeah, this beer is really hoppy too! This sturdy ale has 7.5% alcohol and twice the malt and hops of a Pale Ale. If you like a strong IPA, you’ll find this beer

Pours orange amber with a white head. Nice citrus/pine aroma. Tastes of grapefruit, pine and sweet malt. Very well balanced and drinkable. Love this IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This tastes nice, overall. I used to drink it all the time a few years back, along with ESB from my local Brewery, I now tend to drink Lagers of around 4.0 per cent Volume though.

Big thanks to mrmiles for this unexpected extra! A: Pours a hop-hazed amber/orange color with a massive massive fluffy eggshell color cap. Retention is as good as it gets. Absolutely awesome looking beer. S: My favorite kind of IPA...Sweet tropical fruit and citrus aromas with lots of orange, grapefruit, mango, and tons of pineapple. Slight pine and resin as well, but less apparent. T: Exceptionally balanced flavor with malts giving some caramel sweetness, and the hops give a solid bitterness. The flavor is really light and delicate, but packs a punch. Similar to Sculpin in that sense. The hops are very fruity- orange, lemon, grapefruit, pear, apricot, mango, and pineapple. Simply awesome...I live for these kind of IPAs. The yeast also adds a faint butter flavor. MF/D: Medium body, very smooth and creamy going down. Carbonation is perfect and really compliments the hops. Notes: Second beer from Kern River, with CITRA as my first. Both beers earned near perfect scores, and well deserving. Thanks again Miles!

I Just dig this beer, It has been argued that it is not a real IPA or its this or that. Well this is my rating and this beer tastes good to me, period. Plenty of flavors in this brew to keep me interested and its brewed in good ole California. I will have to go try it off the tap next time I head near Kern. Great balance of flavor and alcohol allow this beer to hit the palette with complexity I don’t find in too many beers.

Pours golden with a slight haze. Aromas of malted grapefruit. Full nectar with excellent carbonation. This beauty is well balanced with an obvious emphasis on hops. Only mildly sweet. Killer juice sasquatch!

A delicious drink of the Earth. It delivers an enticingly arranged flotilla of foam on top of an amber brown body. It pervades the olfactory, tempting one to sniff rather than to drink the beer (I actually caught my brother doing the former, but I convinced him that all good things must end). The smell is grassy and floral. The taste is resinous, not too bitter, slightly acidic, and wonderfully hoppy. This might be my favorite IPA.

Poured in a Sam Adams glass effect pint. Orange copper and perfect one finger foam. Great lasing as beer is swirled one glass. Floral note of grapefruit and passion fruit. Well balance start with grape fruit and dome pine. I definatly enjoyed this one.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2010 My Bottom Line:
Scintillating citrus fruit leap into wooden tones and resinous touches as humble cereals sculpt a comfortable body for this quintessential India Pale Ale .

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the hazy orange amber.
-The aroma beautifully announces the flavour profile.
-The bitterness is levelled with the medium intensity of the aroma and flavour profile.
-This is very quenching even though the mouthfeel is pillowy.
-Orange juice and lychees seep from the hops’ citrusy personality.
-This actually reminds me of The Alchemist’s Holy Cow IPA, but with quieter bitterness.

From bottles and on tap at the brewpub.

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve had an IPA surprise me this much. This is Just Outstanding. The dry hopping leads to a great nose of grapefruit, pine, resin and citrus. The appearance is a bit cloudy and is the only knock but the head is wonderful and creamy and looks great. The taste is Mostly hops, glorious hops but the malt backbone is strong. The mouthfeel is nice and smooth, surprisingly viscous for an IPA. This is a great beer. I will definitely be looking for Kern River Brews in the future. I’m even thinking about planning a day trip up there since I’m only about 3 hours away.

Bottle - Thanks IrishBoy! Pours a slightly hazy butterscotch amber with a medium off-white head that dissipates slowly with nice lacing. Aroma is mango, citrus, pine. Flavor is about the same, nicely tropical with mango and passionfruit notes. Light sweetness and light bitterness, Creamy, almost oily mouthfeel. Crisp light to medium bitter finish that leaves you wanting more. This is a good one.
