COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the Kernville temps dip our spicy rye Winter Ale warms up the taps. It gets its kick from rye but has plenty of hops to balance out the malt.

Mahogany in color with a khaki head. String rye, grapefruit, and pine aromas. A little bit of caramel sweetness, toast, mild grass, toffee, and a nice floral hops. There’s only a mild bitterness, but nice floral, grapefruit, and orange peel hops. Very light pine, tons of rye, some caramel, toffee, and toast.

Bomber. Pours a murky brown color with a large off-white head. A sweet nose of caramel and some deep malts. The flavor is very nice: light spicy malts, caramel, fruit, light strawberry, fruity hops. Very clean and mellow. Good.

Huge thanks to Irishboy for this one. Murky cola pour with a nice sized off white head. Aroma had quite a bit of fruit forward hopiness, mainly grapefruit with a touch of pine. Some caramel and a touch of rye as well. Flavor doesn’t disappoint. Lots of grapefruit in this one but it has plenty of malt background to mellow out the hop bite. I’m not one to enjoy that combination usually, but it works perfect in this beer. Very mildly bitter finish, fizzy carbonation, pretty dry as well. Very well done.

Solid offering but not a knockout. Aroma is spicy rye, backed by the usual array of citrus hop notes, grapefruit, bit of spice maybe a hint of chinook. Appearance is brown with a really nice head that never goes away, it looks like the foam a top a root beer float. Nice. Taste is sweet and spicy then sweet again. Palate is not too thick which is a nice compliment to the spicy rye. Overall this is another solid beer from Kern River

A - Pours a rich brown color with a touch of red blended in and a finger of frothy off-white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - The aroma is full of spicy rye notes backed up by some citrus hops and some sweet biscuit malts. T - Starts off with some spicy rye flavor with a bit of pepper alongside some citrus and tropical hops and a touch of bitterness. Through the middle, more spicy rye comes through with a touch more bitterness and some sweet biscuity malt flavor. The finish is a mix of rye, sweet biscuity malt and some citrus hop flavor. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with spicy and dry finish. D - Very drinkable. Really nice rye character that lasts from start to end, and enough other flavors to balance things out nicely.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a tan head. Grapefruit and light spice aroma. Grapefruit and light spice flavor with light earthiness. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and light pine lingers with light earth, light spice, and malt. Nice hoppy rye beer.

Draft at Gourmet Haus Staudt. Mostly clear dark mahogany pour with a lasting one finger plus beige head. Herbal and citrusy hops with some rye and sweet malts. Nice balanced flavor with caramel, toast, and a well-rounded hoppiness. Bitter dry finish. Medium body with average carbonation and hop resins. Solid stuff.

22oz bottle. Deep chestnut colored pour, with light tan head. Sweet caramel, distinct rye spiciness, fruit, piney hops, and notes of biscuit. A nice beer, but I was expecting something hoppier.

22oz bottle. Rating #4. Dark reddish/brown pour with a big beige head that had some lasting power and a lot of lace. Big juicy grapefruit aroma with a nice grainy spiciness underneath the hops. Big bitterness upfront with a pretty smooth finish and a light spiciness. (2154)
