Bottle split at hotel centrum, Beersel, 20/11/15. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent light tan covering. Nose is sweet malt, dark fruit rinds, marzipan, spice, stollen cake, dates, herbal. Taste comprises rich fruit cake, sweet licks, tarte red berry, dates, brown sugar. Full bodied, fine carbonation with a little prickle that aids the drinkability, sweet close with a boost. Ok if a touch overly sweet.

100ml draught at Taphouse, Kbh. Patchy surface to a clear dark brown coloured body. Fragile lacing on the glass. Mid-sweet aroma of earth and brown malts. Taste of dark malts with hints of both caramel and chocolate as well as liquorice, yeasty esters beneath it all. Rounded mouth feel that lingers well. Sweet, but not overly so. Advent feel (drinking in Copenhagen 13.11.2015).

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.0%. Very dark brown / mahogany colour, moderate beige head. Pleasant aroma of caramel, brown kandij sugar and various mild Christmas spices. Plenty of caramel and brown kandij sugar in the medium sweet flavour too, again fairly distinct notes of Christmas spices. Warming mouthfeel.

Zwart bier met veel schuim. Smaak is zoet en krachtig, chokolade, caramel en ietwat anijs, verder lichte citrus. Goed bier, helaas iets te waterig, wat redelijk lang blijft hangen.

Classic Christmas ale with deep burgundy colour and thinnish, off-white head. Rich malty and estery aroma, yeasty, fruity with spicy notes, caramelly, chocolate accents, dried orange peel, brown rhum. Malty taste with full and creamy mouthfeel, sweet, candied cherries, port wine, cocoa hints, caramelly, smooth with retronasal spiciness, a toasted hint in the finish, some herbal hops and warming alcohol. Very enjoyable winter warmer, one of the best products of this brewery in my opinion, with good ageing potential too.
