Commercial Description:
Cold Smoke Scotch Ale earned a silver medal in 2002 and a gold medal in the 2007 NABA brewfest. Formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops, and lotsa love, this hearty ale drinks very smooth. Not bitter at all and not too sweet either. Novice beer drinkers have been known to take a taste and then say, “WOW! That’s not what I expected… that’s GOOD!” A hint of roasted barley lends a slight coffee-like smoky finish. It packs a 6.5% abv punch. Perfect after a day of rippin’ lines on area or your favorite back country getaway. Available in 16 oz aluminum cans. 6.5 % abv (alcohol by volume); 11 IBUs (International Bittering Units)

Can: Pours amber with a large, creamy sand colored head. Rich aroma of malts, peat, some sweetness, and a little smokey. Smooth taste with a malty sweet character, smoke, a little roasty and dry, ligh bitters, and a bit of the proclaimed "coffee tail." Not as sweet and fruity as some scotch ales; more earthy, floral, and smokey. Very easy to drink.

In the tallboy can thanks to Tim W. Pours a dark reddish brown with a very thick and beautiful dark beige head, This has a strong peaty aroma. Great earthy profile. The body is medium thick and the lacing that remains forms a nice curtain around the glass. Good malty chocolate flavor. A mild smokiness that does not detract from the smoothness. A very good beer that I hope to have again.

fun beer to drink. nice packaging. I would have like more chocolate notes, but the understated caramel notes do this one well until it warms. then it falls a little flat.

I generally enjoy scotch ales but this did not fit the bill. Brownish pour with an off white head. A bit of malt and fruit on the aroma. Rather mild flavor of roasted malts but not much else.

I recently gave this to Presario in a trade and realized I had not yet rated it myself! Pours a clear deep copper with a moderate dense brown head. Aroma is chiefly chocolate, but with some undertones of cherry fruit. Interestingly, the chocolate takes a backseat on the palate, with toasty caramel and more prominent fruit coming forward. There is a hard-to-pin-down subtle spicy quality also (almost like dark rum), but no real smoke despite the name.

Good beer in a can. Rich copper look with a nice creamy head. A heavy swirl of the glass mixes up a nice aroma. Rich spicy malt and hop scent. A nice beer. Starting sweetness. Dryer finish. Nice malty flavour with a touch of peat. A good session beer. A couple of jugs would be nice for a hockey game.

Bottle courtesy of kyzr. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of caramel, pepper, earthy. Tastes of sweet malt, some spice, touches of earthiness. Good.

Can: Dark amber color. Nice head. Rich malts with light smoke, sweet peat, wood, toffee, brown sugar, toast and a nip of molasses. Things were kept on the light side, though, making it fairly easy to quaff. Light bitterness balanced things out decently. Not a bad beer.
