bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 2, 2008 Updated: Jul 6, 2008On tap at Kettle House. Pours hazy dark brown with a lacy off-white head. Aroma of smoke and caramel. Medium body, light carbonation. Sweet caramel, roasted nuts and smoke taste. If you overlook the problem that this beer can’t decide whether to be a Scotch Ale or a Rauchbier, you’ll find a pretty tasty brew. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jun 16, 2008 A lot of roasted malt with hints of raisins. A brown pour with gooey thick lace. Semi sweet maltiness with some peatiness as well. Foamy and thin but not real bad on palate. A solid drinker. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 2, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark garnet-hued body wtih a small, bubbly, whiteish head.
Smell: Peaty, malty aroma of caramel candy, toasted nuts, and even some chocolate.
Taste: Toasty, nutty malts with a mild sweetness. Light peat character. Sprinkle of cocoa powder. Mildly earthy bitterness. Slight taste of pitted fruits. Mildly sweet, relatively clean finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not a bad lil’ scotch ale, though I could stand and would appreciate a ramped up peaty smokiness. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA May 28, 2008 A dark brown appearance with a moderate beige head. The aroma is nutty with some caramel, dark malts, and bread. The flavor is quite malty with some almonds, chocolate, and caramel. The body is rather thin on this one. Overall it was pretty good.
