COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cold Smoke Scotch Ale earned a silver medal in 2002 and a gold medal in the 2007 NABA brewfest. Formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops, and lotsa love, this hearty ale drinks very smooth. Not bitter at all and not too sweet either. Novice beer drinkers have been known to take a taste and then say, “WOW! That’s not what I expected… that’s GOOD!” A hint of roasted barley lends a slight coffee-like smoky finish. It packs a 6.5% abv punch. Perfect after a day of rippin’ lines on area or your favorite back country getaway. Available in 16 oz aluminum cans. 6.5 % abv (alcohol by volume); 11 IBUs (International Bittering Units)

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Cola colored with a smallish tan head. A malty nose with peat. Lots of malt in the flavor, too but the peat is absent. A hint of cocoa. This is nice but is one dimensional.

16oz can pours deep copper mahogany with thin tan head. The modest aroma has some roasted malts, nuttiness and sweet dark fruity esters. The taste has some roasty malts mixing with nuttiness and crystal malts rolling into prunes and raisins and a light yeast spiciness. A note of earthiness would help complete the experience in my eyes.

Pint on tap in Missoula, MN pours a dark amber brown color with a small off-white head which leaves little lacing. Aroma is roasted grains and hops. Taste is malty sweet with some mild hops and some peaty smokiness. Medium body and light carbonation. A very flavorful beer which was quite enjoyable.

Head pours out thick and beige with a vigorous pour, fades quickly. Beer is dark copper, rich and clear. Aroma is brown sugar and malt, with light roastiness. Light roastiness again on the tongue, malt and brown sugar with a light sweetness, but overall balanced. No discernable hop flavor. Medium body and crisp carbonation. Flavorful without overwhelming, very drinkable. A definite favorite of mine.

Thanks to javit for this one in trade. Cheers, Adam! Pours a cola brown with red highlights and an off-white head. Nose is smoked malt, slight maple, slight peat, a hint of smoke, and some sweet dark malt. Flavor is similar- smoked malt, some earth, and some dark cherries with a hint of peat up front followed by sweet malt and slight smoke in the mid and finishing off with dark malt and cherries in the finish. A pretty good scotch ale overall.
