Commercial Description:
Cold Smoke Scotch Ale earned a silver medal in 2002 and a gold medal in the 2007 NABA brewfest. Formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops, and lotsa love, this hearty ale drinks very smooth. Not bitter at all and not too sweet either. Novice beer drinkers have been known to take a taste and then say, “WOW! That’s not what I expected… that’s GOOD!” A hint of roasted barley lends a slight coffee-like smoky finish. It packs a 6.5% abv punch. Perfect after a day of rippin’ lines on area or your favorite back country getaway. Available in 16 oz aluminum cans. 6.5 % abv (alcohol by volume); 11 IBUs (International Bittering Units)

16oz can into glass. pours cloudy dark brown with some red highlights as well. head dissappeared quickly and left a white ring. smell is malty, no hops here! taste is malty with a little nuttiness also. but malt is the defining charachteristic. a little more smoke flavor would have made it perfect. slight coffee on the finish. im lucky that i live in missoula where its brewed to i can enjoy it often.

2009 Can - Thanks Toby! - Pours a very dk amber with a medium frothy creme head...aroma is smokey and peaty, with some nutty malt present as well...flavour is very malt forward, sweet candy malt and dk fruit, very light smoke, very light bitterness...oily in the mouth with good carbonation and some alcohol to cut the sweetness, pretty tasty...

Can: Dark amber color. Nice head. Rich malts with light smoke, sweet peat, wood, toffee, brown sugar, toast and a nip of molasses. Things were kept on the light side, though, making it fairly easy to quaff. Light bitterness balanced things out decently. Not a bad beer.

In a 1-pint can from the Albertson’s in Belgrade, Montana. Pours a deep dark brown color with a slight tan head. Early malty aroma, medium body, full mouthfeel (a bit carbonated), malty-sweet flavor balance with a slightly dry finish. I’d take it camping or rafting.

I recently gave this to Presario in a trade and realized I had not yet rated it myself! Pours a clear deep copper with a moderate dense brown head. Aroma is chiefly chocolate, but with some undertones of cherry fruit. Interestingly, the chocolate takes a backseat on the palate, with toasty caramel and more prominent fruit coming forward. There is a hard-to-pin-down subtle spicy quality also (almost like dark rum), but no real smoke despite the name.

Can shared by ogglethorp: Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma, molasses and caramel, fruity notes, and some earthy tones. Flavor, caramel and molasses, some earthy notes, a hint of smoke.
