2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Sham (1846) - Seattle, USA - JUN 26, 2006
Black with a frothy tan head. Roast and some cocoa in the nose. The nitro kills it, though. Strong roast flavors with bitter hops. Good feeling in the mouthfeel; smooth of course.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2012 Picked up a growler from the south side taproom and enjoyed immediately. Poured a beautiful deep brown with one finger of chocolatey brown head. Smells strongly of roasted malts, hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste - wow. Wonderful full bodied stout of roasted malty flavors, some sweet notes, all balanced out with a nice hop presence. Super smooth, perfect carbonation. What can I say; one of my favorite stouts, right up there with Deschutes Obsidian and Snake River Zonker. If you’re in Missoula, seek this out.

Growler fill from brewpub, not on nitro, drank a few hours later. Pours solid black with a large brown head that sustains well. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, milky sweetness. Taste is excellent, lots of thick sweet malt, some ashy bitterness. Medium thick body, soft carbonation. Finish has some coffee-like bitterness.

On tap at the Kettle House. This black ale poured with a short tan head. There is a nice treacle flavor, slightly thin but tasty, leaving a bitter chalky taste on the tongue.
