Pours black with an okay head. Aroma mostly of roasted barley. Taste is similar with not a lot of complexity.

651 ml. bottle. Dated 9/10/14. Pours a medium well retained, beige head, with slight lacing, over a black (SRM 40) body.....nose is heavy roasted malts, with chocolate, coffee, hints of toffee/caramel, herbal hop note, balance to the hops.....taste is roasted malts, coffee, lighter chocolate, hints of vanilla, slight hints of treacle but dry throughout, strong green herbal hop notes, leading to a moderate hop, roasted malt lingering bitterness, balance to the malts.....mouth feel, heavy of medium body, light alcohol, carbonation makes for heavy creaminess. This is a relatively simple, but well made Stout falling into the Foreign Stout category. The hops are quite restrained with the malts more dominant. BJCP 8/3/13/4/7

pretty thick, lots of lipids. metallic surface. coffee roasted flavors. actually really great beer.

Nose is faint cocoa and roast and inky char. Burnt plum / cola-flavored cara malt, light touches of smoky solvent. Medium body, medium sweetness. Chalky and dusty and ashy, fine carbonation with mouth-filling froth before an empty bitter finish of cocoa powder and roast. Definitely a quiet one. Not terrible and the body is decent. Just kind of pointless. From bottle.

On tap at Kettle and Stone poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, bakers cocoa and light coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, bakers cocoa and light earthiness with a smooth dry lingering roasty finish.

Head is initially small, mostly diminishing.
Body is black.
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate syrup), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of vanilla.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation.
Looks like this batch is slightly improved in the drinkability department compared to the draft sample I had in August (which was a 2.7 for me). Not quite as syrupy sweet, a bit more bitterness in the finish now. Better mouthfeel for sure. The aroma is still very simple, but I don’t notice any flaws. Overall a simple but serviceable rendition.
