3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BrownALEx (140) - Portland, Michigan, USA - NOV 11, 2012Aroma: sweet caramel, slighty malty. Appearance: dark brown with a one finger head. Taste: I get some brown sugar and chocolate. Kind of watery though. Palate: is a little weak, on the thin side. Overall: not the best, not the worst brown I’ve ever had.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Nuffield (3348) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JAN 22, 2013
Right, well, it’s definitely brown, and actually, rather attractive, with a nice (though short) cascade effect. The body is reasonably good, with a frothiness. But, like the more recent renditions of Guinness it emulates, the substance of the flavor has been hollowed out, giving a pale sweetness and a vague caramel quality. There isn’t enough meat in these malts. Can.

Can served in a large tulip,
this brown ale had a clear red pour with brown at the sides of the glass, it gave a one finger off-white head that retreated to a partial cover
and ring, it left some small fingers and spots of lacing on the glass,
this beer had aromas of toasted malt, caramel, faint raisin, some bread and brown sugar sweetness,
there was a slight off smell from I do not know, maybe old malt?
the flavors were toasted malt, caramel, faint chocolate and dark fruit, bread and dark fruit sweetness,
the finish had little bitterness, the off-ness was notice in the taste of this beer, not sure what it is, maybe old malt?
the mouth feel was less than medium, a little thin with no creamy feel on the palate,
I will try this beer again at a later date to see if it is better than this sample.

On tap at the Keweenaw Brewery Pub in Houghton. Served a clear light brown with a moderate head and lacing. Aroma was of slightly sweet malts with some slight roasting hints. Taste was of a slightly roasted malts with a moderate hop finish. Palate was average. Overall, a decent brown.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Dogbrick (6033) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 8, 2011
This brew pours a clear amber-brown color with a medium foamy light beige head that dissipates slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Tasted malt and grain in the nose. Light to medium body with sweet malt and brown sugar flavors and low amounts of hops in the background. The finish is short and malty and leaves a touch of grassy hops behind. Fairly one-dimensional and frankly kind of boring overall.

Lift Bridge Brown is an American Brown Ale, named after the double-decker bridge that connects Houghton and Hancock on the Keweenaw Peninsula, which extends north into Lake Superior. It’s a solid brown in color, with a thinner body than I’d expect, and it was overcarbonated in the can that I poured. There’s a touch of chocolate on the roof of the palate, but with a softer finish and dryness on the sides of the tongue, it reminded me a bit of a Bell’s Amber Ale. The bittering hops were slightly out of balance due to a lack of sweetness, particularly for a brown, although the body opens up a bit as it warms. All and all, it’s not a bad effort and a average effort.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 crackedmachine (412) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 20, 2011
Pours a transparent red-brown with a foamy tan head. Malty, grainy aroma with maybe a slight hint of chocolate. Flavor is sweet and malty, but well balanced with a bit of nut, caramel, and a light hop touch. Light-bodied and easy to drink. Enjoyable.

Pours a dark brown with red hues and a whispy head. Light biscuit/malt aroma. Light nut, caramel flavor. Light-medium body with a bitter hop finish. This is not a Fat Tire, which is good. It’s an ok brown ale.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 RobertDale (1891) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - NOV 2, 2010

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Onslow (924) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - OCT 10, 2010
Pour from a 12 oz can. Slightly clouds dark brwon boy with a light tan head. Nice malty aroma. Flavor is dominated by maltiness that manages to avoid being oiverly sweet. Pleasant toasted malts, dark fruit, and maybe cola flavors. Just the right amount of hops to balnace out the finish. A very solid brown ale.
