Medium bodied and lightly hopped, this Oktoberfest-style ale is brewed in tribute to the Red Jacket Mine of what is now Calumet and to the glory days of the copper industry in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

This is an amber without much of a backbone. Very little flavor although it looks pretty good. Mouthfeel is nothing.

Better than other Keweenaw offerings. Lovely cloudy reddish/amber hued pour with creamy beige head. Grapefruit and bread aroma. Roasted caramel on the palate. What subtracts from this is the watery finish and lack of hops.

Amber pour with off-white head. Light grain nose and hint of citrusy hops. Flavors are sweet, lightly roasted grain, anf very light citrus hops, touches of cardboard and hints of the metallic can.

Slightly reddish amber color with a small tight light-brown head. Very light aroma of malt and crisp hops. Doughy malt flavor with a tart citrus background. Medium bodied with a slightly watery palate and a nice malty finish.

12oz can thanks to xnoxhatex. Pours a slightly hazed glowing amber with a frothy off-white small head 2.5. Same weird canned fruit like aroma that is present in the other two KBC beers I’ve tried, airy, some milled malt, light citrus hops. Lightly sweet malt flavor, similar to a mild or ESB, lightly juicy citrus hops but somewhat faded into the malt, a touch of sweetness and special roast. Medium bodied with airy but full milkshake like carbonation.

Killed in the hotel room after Founders Fest 2009. 12oz can pours dirty amber with a white head. Heavy carbonation. Aroma is of scrambled eggs, light hops, grain, and grass. Smells very bland. Taste is of rotten eggs, pineapple straw, grass, and the faintest of hops. Medium mouthfeel. Lingering taste of grass. Very bland and boring.

Pour from a 12 oz can. Deep coppery amber color – fitting for a brew named after a copper mine. Thin head that lingers as a wafer of foam on the top, leaving ample lacing as the glass is drained. Nose dominated by hops. Pleasant and well balanced flavor – malty start with a decent hops bite to the finish. Though the can describes the ale as ‘lightly hopped’ a pleasant astringent hoppiness pervades the finish. And while the can also says it is an Oktoberfest style beer (???) it is nowhere as sweet. Very drinkable, very tasty.

Much better than their Pick Axe--a nice note of caramel in the front end before it fades to a metallic, slightly malty and slightly astringent finish. Drinkable in a pinch.
