2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz can. Poured a medium and hazy amberish color with a large sized off white head. Lots of suspended floaters. Aromas of caramel, yeasty, and I was getting some card board. Tastes of caramel, and some fruitiness. I had a hard time pinning this one down.

Hazy orange with a medium off white head, quickly dissipating that leaves some lace behind. Aroma of nuts, malt and corn. Taste of sweet malt, almost candied and somewhat vegetal and caramel malt. Semi dry bland finish.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Slightly hazy amber coloued body with a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of fresh caramel malt, rasins, soap, nuts and a little bit of bananas. Medium-bodied; Soapy flavour with a majority malt taste and a light sweet flavour with plantains most common. Aftertaste shows mostly malt with a tiny bit of nuts and a lot of fruity sweetness behind. Overall, a decent beer, nothing great, but something satisfactory when you pour this from the can! I sampled this twelve ounce CAN purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 06-June-2008, sampled on 05-October-2008 at home in Washington.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: SEP 29, 2008 12oz can - Aroma of crystal malts and not much else. Cloudy amber with a small head and decent lacing. Flavor is toasted nutty malts and a touch of hop bitterness. Palate is sticky. Not terrible but there are a lot of better ambers... although none available in a can around here.

Huh. First of all the can says Octoberfest style ale. Rate beer gives it a better score by style than overall which I don’t understand given the nontraditional break with style. Other than that, it’s unremarkable. Average. Not bad, not memorable. A little malty, some flavor, not bad, not good. Could do worse; could do a lot better.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Canned. Poured medium orange with a short cap of beige head.. quite a lot of dark sediment at the bottom of the can. The aroma picked up candied caramel and an odd, sour medium-skinned fruit (& pineapple).. kinda smelled like it was falling apart. The flavor had sweet caramel and fruits similar to the nose with tart fruit skins surrounding.. never really came together. Light-bodied and unnecessarily tart on the palate.. sticky, ugly finish.

7/14/2008: Red Jacket Amber Ale creates has a pretty nice presentation after being poured from the can into a glass (one of my Samuel Adams Perfect Pints). It has a hazy amber colder (more towards the orange side of the spectrum) with a lasting, fluffy beige head. The aroma exhibits an attractive blend of caramelized malt and toasty sweet rolls (similar to the ones at O’Charlies). This beer has a medium body and is really smooth on the palate. The flavor is quite enjoyable as well. Muted caramel, toasted malt, and a soft floral hoppiness and bitterness (more toward the finish) are nicely balanced to produce a really good beer! The generous maltiness is paired perfectly with the light fruity floral and dry grassy hoppiness. I am quite impressed. It has a nice softness and thickness that coats the mouth well and is generally pleasing. Overall this beer is quite good for the style, very sessionable, and really exceeded my expectations!
12 fl. oz. can from buckybeer. Thank you much, Mark! Rating #12 for this beer...
