COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Medium bodied and lightly hopped, this Oktoberfest-style ale is brewed in tribute to the Red Jacket Mine of what is now Calumet and to the glory days of the copper industry in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Pours a cloudy redish orange. Nice creamy head that vanishes rather quickly. Small lacings spread out sporadically around the glass. Taste is like other Keweenaw beers, weak and watery, no oomph. Palate is on the light side. Overall I’m glad I tried it but will probably not seek again.

Can poured a clear orange aber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of caramel, fruitiness and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of caramel, earthiness and light fruitiness with a crisp lingering caramel finish.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 10/28/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, brown sugar, light nuttiness, light orange zest, herbal, grass, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malts and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, brown sugar, light nuttiness, light orange zest, herbal, grass, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Slight earthy herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, brown sugar, light nuttiness, light orange zest, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good robustness and complexity of dark/bready malts and earthy hop flavor; with a solid malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is a nice malty amber ale style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malts and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Tap. Amber with small head. Sweet caramel with light hop bitterness. Clean and pleasant, but rather bland.

As mentioned earlier, difficult to tell from their brown ale. All had bland malt flavors, almost no aroma, watery consistency. Forgettable lot of beers.

12oz can, purchased as a single (for $2.50) from Woodstock Wine & Cheese in Michigan. Clear amber color. Thin half finger of off-white head. Toasty malt, some pumpkin like light spice? Decent lace. Kind of a musty taste, moderate bitter, light to moderate sweet, some metallic. Medium body. Smooth, lighter carbonation, dry finish. Mediocre amber ale.

Amber with white head, clear, mild carbonation, lite lacing. Caramel, mild earthy, and mild floral aroma notes. Lite bodied, flavor like aroma, watery, mild bitterness, ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Straight from the can in deer camp. Malt and caramel on the palate, but not much taste beyond that. Probably should try it again in a glass.

9/22/12. Poured from can into pint glass. Stiff, lingering head. Mild aroma. Beautiful, copper-red color. Taste starts smooth with fruit and spice, tickles the palate and then gone. Flavor vanishes into barely identifiable aftertaste. Meh... A disappointing Oktoberfest. This is the first I heard of this brewery located in the UP. At least the beer only contains the classic 4 ingredients. Would not order another. ---Rated via the Gridfather

Pours a reddish-orange, with smallish head. Aroma is grassy and a bit sweet, with a hint of hops. Flavor a bit watered down, but tends toward the sweet malt, with some fruit and some hops. Just a bit on the metallic side (courtesy of the can?). Not terrible, nothing too special, either.
