COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Don't let its looks deceive you. Though it may resemble a porter or a stout, this is a light bodied ale with a pleasant hint of molasses. Don't be afraid of the dark.

Rated on 10-01-2010. This canned beer pours a medium sized very fizzy tan head that quickly dissipates, mostly opaque black body, lively, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is roasted malt as is the flavor The palate is tangy and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer lacks character and is very bland tasting. This is a beer I do not recommend.

On draft at Danís on January 24. The pour is a darker brown, with a lot of ruby around the edges. There is no head to be found, and as such, no lace exists. The aroma s really light. There is a little bit of maltiness present, but itís really thin. The taste is quite dull. Some malts are detected, but there isnít anything else. The mouth feel is extraordinarily thin and watery, with flavors not hanging out at all.

On tap at The Looking Glass, pours black with an off white head, the aroma is pretty meh, a little bit of roast and chocolate, but thatís stretching, the flavor is sweet with some caramel and malt in the finish, meh.

FROM NOTES: July 11, í12 Poured from a 12 ounce can into a pint glass. A: Very malty with distinct sweet bread notes. It has an interesting slightly tart cherry sort of acidity that melds with astringent roasted malts. A: Pours a dark, dark brown with a frothy light tan head that has great lacing. In the glass, it reminds me of a porter.... T: Sweet malt, chocolate, tea with some very roasty malt flavors and hints of a tart cherry flavor. P: On the light side of medium bodied, slightly watery and a very smooth finish. O: Not a great Black Ale, but not a terrible one. Worth the try, but I wonít kill to get it.

On draft at Red Robin in Ann Arbor, Mich. No aroma???? Light coffee color. Very weak mouthfeel. Tinny, toasted malt. Easy to drink but nothing special.

Can at Psycho Suziís. Black ale that basically fails all around. Described as what a typical homebrew tastes like except instead of it coming from a basement it actually was produced at a brewery. Sad. Bitter, coffee undertones as expected but just a very flat overall flavor. Not recommended. Ironically this black ale is the one whoís dead leaving all other black ales as the true widows.

Can. Pours deep mahogany, medium creamy tan head, good lacing. Aroma is honey, grain, roast, cardboard. Flavor is the same, light to medium sweet, little bitterness, some dark sugars, molasses. Light body, high carbonation.

From an undated 12 oz can purchased in MI last month. Served in a snifter. Pours clear, dark red-brown color, but nearly black in the glass. The nice tan head soon reduces to a ring but leaves a coat lacing upon tilting. S: Lightly sweet with medium roast malts and little sign of dark roasted grains T: Sweet upfront but more balanced by the finish. Still less dark roasted malt flavor than expected, and probably less than any schwarzbier Iíve come across. M: Light carbonation; medium-light body; fairly smooth. O: Somewhat light American Schwarzbier. As the brewer says, "Donít let its looks deceive you."
