1.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
On draft @ Old Dog Tavern. Pours a opaque black, appears to have very little carbonation. Taste is bland, quite thin and watery with some sweet taste and black licorice. Not too much there. Was pretty happy when this was finished.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
10/10/2014: Keweenaw Widow Maker Black Ale... Dark brown, opaque color with a frothy tan-colored head. Aroma is dusty with some coal, dark malts, and roasted fruits. The flavor starts dry and slightly roasty with some caramel and gets more fruity (cooked apples) as the beer warms. Medium-body; mostly smooth. Decent, but nothing special. Best when served COLD. Seems to be a better beer to cook with rather than drink since it goes well in roasts, chili, etc. based on my experiences with both drinking it and cooking with it.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: SEP 24, 2014 Tap: Deep brown, mahogany body, small khaki head. Light aroma of dark malt, faint coffee, mild burnt popcorn kernel, & roasted barley. Slightly thin flavor and body. Lightly roasted malt, very faint coffee, slight acrid earthiness, & a touch of dark fruit. Very modist and light overall. Thin. Pretty "blah" on all fronts.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice flavor without the burnt, smoky nature. Semi sweet, body leans towards watery. Cola colored, minimal head, abrupt finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured into pilsner/ lager glass. Dark brown/ black with thin off white head with decent retention. Smell is dark malt and a little yeast. Taste is dominated by dark malt. The feel is kind of thin and watery. Overall, not a bad beer, good for the style.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a dark ruby with a tall khaki head that leaves a thick foamy lacing. Nose involves coffee, smoked ham, toasted malt, and dark sugar. Fairly sweet, somewhat bitter. Lighter toward watery, oily, frothy, with a lengthy smoky finish. Not a bad brew, a bit strange and unexpected at first sip without reading the description. Sort of a session smoke beer, which is a great idea, though I don’t think everything came together seamlessly here.

Very watery leads to little flavor. Non-offensive but not noteworthy either. B-L-A-H.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black with off white head and decent lacing. Mild roast, mild grain and mild dark berry aroma. Medium bodied, lite roast notes, but fairly bland. Watery, but drinkable swartzbier, and no hop bitter notes.
