The beer is 5.2% alc. and offers the palate a balance of dark malt notes with a clean, short bitterness on the finish. The name, 1855, is our way of saluting the great city of Ottawa that has been so good to us.

Draught, Pub Italia. Amber-brown. Thin head. Faint aroma is slightly caramelly and nutty. Basically a mild, toasty brown ale. A bit light but nothing wrong with it.

Not super interesting but a good go-to in Ottawa non-craft brew pubs. Pours dark amber with some roast malt and a little hoppy bitterness. Good for pitcher session at Mugshots. Tap.

Aroma: lighter nose , brown malts , gentle sweet brown sugar , hint of leafy hops.7-
Appearance: solid look. Brown with neatly contrasting white , large snowy top. Great lace. What else you might want ? 5/5
Body , Flavour , Palate and Final Notes: medium lighter body. Slight tartness, nutty follow up , dry sides with bitter lip-smacking roast. Hefty bitterness was thirst quenching to be sure. Nicely done.

Boutip (5797) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 30, 2012
Draft: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a small foamy head with light retention and limited lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt with light sweet nutty notes as well. Taste is a mix between some nutty caramel notes with some semi-dry caramel malt. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not overly complex and easily drinkable.

Beershine (5219) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - JUN 4, 2012
Draft at Pub Italia. Red-amber, decent lace. Aroma of cookie malt, bran muffin. Sweet malt profile needs more depth, body, oomph, and some hops couldnt hurt. But the bread flavors are pleasant and juicy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the manx. Clear brown pour, small off white head. Big upfront aroma of nuts, and doughy, caramel malts. Quite bitter in the end, with a sharp metallic finish. Meh.

On tap at Sir John A (Ottawa, ON). Brown body with a fair off-white creamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with grainy hints. Its sharp hoppy taste carries grainy and oaky notes. Ends with a decent bitter/woody finish. Enjoyable Brown Ale.
