COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Who is Uncle Mark? Mark is Kelly’s oldest brother and happens to be turning 50 this August so we wanted to make a beer to celebrate this occasion. He is a big fan of Weisse Beer so we made this beer for him. Uncle Mark is quite an original guy so we wanted to make sure that we had an original beer. Our Hopfen Weisse is a traditional German Hefeweizen with much more of a hop characteristic to it, both in aroma and bitterness.”

[on tap at Gezellig; Ottawa] Sweet clove and then banana aroma, followed by celery and spicy, phenolic pepper, somewhat balanced by spicy, noble hops. Hazy orangey copper under a thin, white, lacy cover. Fairly complex flavour of caramel with clove and peppery phenolics, faint banana, and assertive bitterness. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, sweet and bitter finish.

4 oz sample at National Capital Craft Beer Festival. 17AU12.

App.: Very cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma: Peppery, floral, vegetal, leafy, lots of sulfur, odd. Palate: Medium body, medium effervescence with prickly bubbles. Flav.: Peppery, herbaceous hops, some Belgian-style esters, not too bad but doesn’t live up to other hop-head wheat beers (like DV Lupulus); dry with good bitterness and esters.

Uncle Mark isn’t my favourite uncle.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a moderate white top. Aroma is bready and banana grains. Taste is banana, very much a malt forward beer with some slight citrus hop bitterness. Nice job.

A hazed golden weizen with a thin off white head. In aroma, grassy and lemony malt, with sulfur notes. In mouth, watery grassy malt with grassy hops, herbaceous, not bad. On tap at National Capital Craft Beer Festival, August 17, 2012.

Pretty decent effort. Pours cloudy straw coloured. Quite a bit of banana in here, and also lots of yeast/dough. I’d buy again for sure.
